Report: Hollywood interested in doing a Darksiders movie
by assedySteef on Jan.05, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Apparently Hollywood wouldn’t mind tossing Darksiders up on the silver screen, as Vigil’s Joe Madureira confirmed to VG247 that THQ’s already been contacted for projects outside of the video game realm. “We’ve gotten some interest from Hollywood, we’ve talked about doing a comic series,” said Madureira. Obviously, a comic wouldn’t be much of a stretch for the creative director, given his past experience with the medium. “It’s really a THQ thing, but I know they are definitely talking to people and I would be surprised if some of that stuff didn’t happen,” he added

Harmonix and MTV Games are dropping a couple of classic Simon & Garfunkel tracks alongside the first Slipknot track pack this coming week as DLC, appealing to that very specific crossover niche of people who like 30-year-old folk music yet like to go blackout partying on the weekends. Take out your terrifying masks and acoustic guitars, folks. It’s going to be a weird one. Check out all the tracks for the upcoming week after the break

Assassin’s Creed 2 pre-orders up 10 to 20% over original
by assedySteef on Nov.03, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Judging by one analyst’s estimation, Assassin’s Creed 2 is set to escape from store shelves faster than its protagonist can outrun his pursuers. According to Mike Hickey of Janco Partners, pre-orders for the game are running 10 to 20 percent more than those of the original Assassin’s Creed , which, as the firm pointed out to Gamasutra , greatly exceeded its initial sales forecast of 3 million units. (It sold 8 million.) In other words, it looks like Ubisoft’s going to make a killing off an assassin.

Analyst: DS and PSP growth ‘peaked,’ iPhone to drum future growth
by assedySteef on Oct.23, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Software, Video Games, iPhone, iPod
DFC Intelligence analyst David Cole thinks that Nintendo and Sony devices will still lead the handheld market by 2014, but that the iPhone/iPod Touch will drive growth, thanks to a little thing called the App Store. IndustryGamers took note of the new report, where the analyst believes that the worldwide mobile and portable games market will reach $11.7 billion by 2014, which includes the PSP and DS, with Apple’s devices pushing 24 percent of software sales. The company found that of over 8,000 surveyed respondents, 54 and 69 percent of North Americans and Europeans, respectively, had played a game on their phone in the last year.

DJ Hero Renegade Edition’s Jay-Z, Eminem compilations detailed
by assedySteef on Oct.12, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
When you get home with your gigantic DJ Hero Renegade Edition box, make sure to get everything out of it. We know the temptation to just unfold the case/table thing and start playing the game with that kind of irresistible-looking novelty controller will be overwhelming, but if you turn the package over and shake it, exclusive greatest-hits CDs from Jay-Z and Eminem will fall out. Rolling Stone got the full list of tracks on both sets. Jay-Z’s disc sticks exclusively to past hits, but Eminem’s includes a brand-new song, “Taking My Ball.” That’s right, the “unreleased tracks” mentioned on the box is really unreleased track . And it’ll premiere on Eminem’s Sirius radio station over a week before the game comes out, so it’s more like no unreleased tracks

Final Fantasy XIII ‘Elixir’ beverage headed to Japanese inventories this winter
by assedySteef on Sep.08, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
The release date, price, and reveal of a PS3 bundle for Final Fantasy XIII were big news, sure, but the real megaton out of the Final Fantasy XIII Party was the announcement of a tie-in beverage from Final Fantasy XII Potion partner Suntory. Like the Dissidia beverage , Final Fantasy XIII ” Elixir ” will come in 16 collectible cans, each with a different character on it. It will be available sometime this winter, either in single cans (of Lemon or Aloe-flavored Elixir), in packages with collectible figurines, or in a collector’s box with all 16 cans. No, we don’t know why the logo uses the Star Trek movie font
