Reggie: Nintendo not ‘thinking seriously’ about next console yet
by Brondanao on Mar.10, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Software, Video Games
In a Forbes interview , Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime gave the impression that a new home console from Nintendo is still in the distant future. “The way we approach that innovation,” he said, referring to Nintendo’s innovative “jumps” (like the Wii), “because we have hardware developers working side by side with software developers, is that when the software developer comes forward with an idea that can’t be executed on the current platform, that’s when we start thinking seriously about the next system. We’re not there yet, from a Wii perspective.” Of course, E3 is still a few months away.

by Brondanao on Feb.03, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
THQ’s Brian Farrell has revealed on today’s investor conference call that the company is planning to revisit some of its most successful franchises as far away as the fiscal year of 2012 (which would be sometime after March 2011), including this year’s bestseller Darksiders , and the popular Saint’s Row franchise. Farrell says the company is looking to fiscal 2012 for “accelerated growth with three major core game titles scheduled: Warhammer 40k Space Marine , a sequel to Darksiders and the third generation of our popular Saint’s Row franchise.” Given that these are more than a year away, we don’t have any more information besides the fact that they’re planned for release (Who will Darksiders ape next?

Quantum Theory, Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll delayed [update]
by Brondanao on Feb.02, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Tecmo Koei announced delays of two of its titles in Japan today. The female-focused shooter, Quantum Theory , has been moved out of its March 25 date to a troubling “TBA” date in the interest of improving quality. Tecmo Koei Europe confirmed that the delay affects the European release date, and it’s likely to bump the North American date as well — after all, if the game is still being worked on in March, we don’t expect it to be released. [Update: Tecmo has confirmed the North American delay to Joystiq.] The Koei side also delayed a title: Omega Force’s RPG Trinity: Zill O’ll Zero , which is to be released outside of Japan as Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll. Its new release date is also “TBA.” [Via Andriasang ] Source : Quantum site Source : Zill O’ll site Quantum Theory, Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll delayed [update] originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 02 Feb 2010 10:55:00 EST.

by Brondanao on Dec.02, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
They said it couldn’t be done. Well, to be fair, it can’t — however, if one were to track the completion of Blizzard’s super successful World of Warcraft by the number of achievements a player had unlocked, then a Taiwanese player has effectively solved that game tape .

Spore Islands launches on Facebook, prepare to drown in invites
by Brondanao on Nov.06, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Networking, Video Games
You likely spend a great deal of your time on Facebook informing your so-called “friends” that, no, you don’t want to see their farm , or join their mafia , or become a vampire , or fight their superhero , and so on. We’re afraid you’ll be adding a new form of denial to your repertoire: “No, I don’t want to birth a species from the loam, and force it to fight against your species in an adorable Flash-based display of survival of the fittest.” It’s a tad verbose — but if you’re not interested in EA’s Spore Islands Facebook app, you’re going to be saying it a lot in the coming weeks.

by Brondanao on Oct.20, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Striding into informed meta-prediction territory, several Tokyo-based analysts have suggested that Nintendo may cut its earnings forecast in preparation for a decline in profits — the first in six years. According to a Bloomberg report, Nintendo’s adjustments will be prompted by slowing Wii sales and a stronger Yen. Scheduled to report earnings on October 29th, Nintendo is expected to indicate an 11 percent fall in net income to 249.3 billion yen (nearly $2.75 billion) for the fiscal year.
