Dark Void dev diary all about the underdog

by Bustercherry on Jan.15, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

As the developers at Airtight Games would put it, Dark Void is really an underdog story. You’ve got these people, downtrodden and stuck in The Void, trying to overcome what seems like insurmountable odds. Yeah — been there, done that

by Bustercherry on Dec.07, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

There’s some classic platforming to be had in both Rayman and Shinobi in this week’s Nintendo downloads, and even a way to deal with Jack’s overabundance of stress in Stop Stress: A Day of Fury . There’s over ten titles in all, so cruise past the break for the full list. Warmachine game attacking PC, consoles

by Bustercherry on Nov.28, 2009, under Gadgets, Mac, Media, Video Games

According to a statement made to BigDownload , the video game adaptation of Privateer Press’ tabletop fantasy war game Warmachine is currently in development for the PC and (unspecified) consoles. Quietly announced in August, the Warmachine video game is being developed by the indie team at WhiteMoon Dreams and will feature player control of “various warcasters and their warjack battle groups” across interactive battlefields in both single and multiplayer modes. WhiteMoon Dreams’ Norvell Thomas promises we’ll get a chance to see whatever that last sentence even means in a “gorgeous” demo by GDC 2010 . Thomas adds that the indie dev’s goal is to “wow” publishers at the conference in order to fund full development of the table-top adaptation. Splitfish brings the Fragchuck back just in time for Modern Warfare

by Bustercherry on Oct.22, 2009, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Despite having released a product called the ” fragchuck ” once , and (if there’s any justice) being roundly humiliated for it, gimmicky peripheral maker SplitFish is releasing a new version of its PlayStation 3 FragFX controller, called the Dual SFX Frag Pro . In addition to the …

5th Cell: Leaked Scribblenauts word list is incomplete

by Bustercherry on Sep.15, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Of all the criticisms that could fairly be leveled against Scribblenauts , the fact that it only recognizes 22,802 words is not among them. 5TH Cell creative director Jeremiah Slaczka told Fast Company that the leaked word list was not comprehensive, though he said it much more colorfully than we did: “That was leaked by a hacker who does not know anything,” Slaczka said. “It’s more than that.” Slaczka also revealed the last word to be added to the game’s database: “Low Rider.” Presumably this was added at the insistence of his friends, all of whom love a low rider. Best Buy offering buy-one-get-one-half-off for 360 games

by Bustercherry on Aug.30, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Software, Video Games

Last week, Canadians were privy to a fantastic deal, netting them Batman’s latest adventure for $40 . This week, American gamers are being treated to a buy-one-get-one-half-off promotion at Best Buy on a laundry list of Xbox 360 software. The deal is pretty simple: Purchase one qualifying Xbox 360 title and get a second game (of equal or lesser value) for 50% off. To sweeten the deal Best Buy is even throwing in free shipping for your purchase. Strangely, the fine print mentions gamers can only select items that are currently in stock, but list Modern Warfare 2 as one of the qualifying titles.

Level-5 invites players into a ‘Fantasy Life’ … in a doomed town

by Bustercherry on Aug.26, 2009, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Video Games

In addition to the London Life RPG inside Professor Layton and the Devil’s Flute , Level-5 announced another collaboration with Brownie Brown, the Sword of Mana developer and Mother 3 co-creator: Fantasy Life , a town simulation in the vein of Animal Crossing . Fantasy Life occurs in the world of Fantazeal, which shows prophesied signs of impending destruction after a shadow passes over the moon. If this were a normal RPG, you’d portray some kind of teenaged hero fighting to save the world from this catastrophe, but in this game, it basically doesn’t seem to matter: you choose a job and undertake daily “Life Quests” related to that job, to improve your wealth and happiness levels. The game includes local and online wireless functionality, allowing others to visit your town. Aside from Level-5 and Brownie Brown, Fantasy Life features more big names.
