The anime-inspired game is based off a comic of the same name, created by Krome Studios co-founder Steve Stamatiadis. A gameplay trailer will debut later tonight exclusively on Spike TV’s GameTrailers TV.

Molyneux calls on UK government to support games industry
by DermontK on Feb.16, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Speaking to the Telegraph at Microsoft’s X10 event, Lionhead’s Peter Molyneux has called on the UK government to give tax breaks to local game studios. Said Molyneux, “It is just crazy that the British government does not recognize the games industry as a creative industry in the way it recognizes others,” noting that Canada recently replaced the UK as the third largest games industry in the world. He noted that many measures taken by Canada have been proven to be “financially sensible.” Molyneux’s words contribute to escalating pleas for government support in the UK. Over the past year, the issue has been consistently pursued by the industry, with developers calling for tax breaks , and the government in turn asking for evidence of how such breaks would culturally enrich the country. Meanwhile, an August report noted that the production of original IP was declining and suggested that developers might be willing to take risks on original ideas with tax cuts in place.

Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine says ‘high-level’ talks with Neversoft, Activision could result in … something
by DermontK on Jan.18, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Megadeth’s inclusion as DLC in Rock Band (not to mention past appearances in Guitar Hero games) apparently won’t stifle the group from putting together something “over-the-moon” with Neversoft and Activision for the future. In a “Scorpion” feature (read: “Ask the Band”) on the band’s website , a couple of fans posed the “What about a Guitar Hero game?” question, to which the lead singer/guitarist Dave Mustaine replied: “I have recently had two very important high-level meetings with the people from Activision and Neversoft, and we are talking about a lot of things.” He only clarifies a teensy bit, saying a Guitar Hero: Megadeth game “is not attractive” to him and that the Guitar Hero developers have instead offered up a “new idea.” Mustaine also laments past legal run-ins, and hopes that no one “stand[s] in the way of this happening.” We’ve contacted Megadeth as well as Activision for more information on the subject, and will be rocking as hard as possible while we wait for a reply. Oh, and yes, we suppose we’ll tell you if we hear more. [Via Kotaku ] Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine says ‘high-level’ talks with Neversoft, Activision could result in …

PSN Thursday: It’s so tiny
by DermontK on Jan.14, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
[Image credit: David Gunter ] Today’s PSN update reminds us about the vastness of space. Like, space is really, really huge. Certainly in comparison to this week’s update, which is so very, very small. Almost microscopic when placed next to each other

Ace Combat: Joint Assault for PSP brings Ace Combat into the real world
by DermontK on Jan.12, 2010, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Recently, a Namco Bandai trademark for “Joint Assault” was discovered, but the identity of the project using that title was unknown. We didn’t have to wait long to find out, as Namco just announced Ace Combat: Joint Assault , a new release in its flight action series for PSP. Joint Assault features four-player co-op (playable online through adhocParty), new AI, and some kind of new “Enhanced Combat View” which, according to IGN , is designed to “bring the fighting up close and personal to take things away from the RADAR-heavy battles.” Adding to the “enhancement” of the “view” is the fact that missions will now take place over real-life cities instead of the fictionalized nations in which the (ace) combat usually occurs

Xbox Live Arcade is heavy on the ampersands this week as both Axel & Pixel and the second season of Sam & Max (subtitled Beyond Time and Space , according to the ESRB ) will be landing on Microsoft’s download service. Both are games of the adventuring persuasion, requiring players to traverse the game world and solve puzzles, performing actions by pointing and / or clicking. Yes, you read that correctly, two adventure games in one week. It’s like the 80s all over again. Axel & Pixel will set you back 800 ($10).

LinkedIn continues to provide our only link to the status of a true sequel to Dead Space . A recent job posting on the professional networking site, created by EA senior recruiter Jeff Ballard, reports, “The previous installment in the Dead Space franchise received numerous awards … and the same core team is in place to create an even better follow up.” The posting adds, “The game is in the later stages of pre-production, ready for production in the next few months, with many of the navigational and combat mechanics in place.” With the point-n-shoot spin-off, Dead Space Extraction, releasing this week for Wii, confirmation that the core-series sequel (expected for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC) will soon roll into production phase comes as welcome news to fans looking for the franchise to stay the traditional course. Hopefully, EA and developer Visceral Games’ transmissions will continue to pick up from here on out. [Via superannuation ] Dead Space 2 entering production in ‘next few months’ originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 30 Sep 2009 12:20:00 EST.
