Charity XBLA game Chime’s gameplay explained in latest trailer

by JamesTKirk on Dec.04, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

What’s the only thing more satisfying than aligning colorful blocks on a rectangular grid while simultaneously recreating pleasant ambient tunes from musical artists such as Moby? Simple — doing so while simultaneously donating to charity. That’s the package that OneBigGame and Zoe Mode will offer on XBLA at some point this winter, when their music/puzzle game Chime lands on the XBLA. Though we’ve known about this non-profit puzzler for a month now, we’ve yet to see the title in action. Fortunately, OneBigGame dropped a gameplay demonstration video earlier today, which we’ve posted above

Japanese hardware sales, Nov. 9 – Nov. 15: New direction edition

by JamesTKirk on Nov.22, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

If you haven’t noticed, just about every foreign sales post we do somehow references football (or, as our primitive North American minds have designated it, soccer) — including the post you’re reading right this hot second . The terrifically named, PSP-exclusive J. LEAGUE Football Club Tsukurou! 6 Pride of J took top honors in the Japanese charts this week, pushing the portable platform to a first-place finish over its ill-equipped, football-less competitors. We know better than to stand in the way of progress — so, from henceforth, Joystiq will be changing its focus from video games to the foot-centric sport which half of our posts tend to be about anyways.

by JamesTKirk on Oct.08, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

click to Boomer-size Valve took the wraps off Left 4 Dead 2 ’s brand-new competitive multiplayer game type, “Scavenge,” at a press event in San Francisco this evening. According to the developer, this mode is built purely for “quick, more frantic gameplay.” (Yes, L4D actually can be more frantic). by JamesTKirk on Sep.28, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

When Activision sent out a press release this morning regarding a Guitar Hero DLC discount, we couldn’t help but notice a tiny trademark symbol dangling precariously above the term “Rocktober[TM].” That got our mind grapes juicing: Isn’t that the term EA has been using to market Br

$399 Modern Warfare 2-themed Xbox 360: 250GB HDD, wireless controllers, game

by JamesTKirk on Sep.16, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

click for gallery Microsoft and Infinity Ward just announced the availability of a Modern Warfare 2 -themed Xbox 360 console at a press event in Los Angeles. Included in this “limited edition” $399 package is: a 250GB Xbox 360 console, with the requisite Modern Warfare 2 markings (the so-called ” Super Elite “); two wireless controllers, presumably also apparently not Modern Warfare 2 -themed (though, notably, not Mad Catz’s officially licensed wired controllers); and, lastly, a “standard edition” copy of Modern Warfare 2 . No matter how you do the math, that’s a good deal. As most of us know, the only thing that moves more consoles than “a good deal” is “a good deal” that includes the words “modern,” “warfare,” and “two” somewhere in the title.
