by kalaHeirl on Feb.12, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Eclectic might be a bit of an understatement when it comes to next week’s Rock Band Weekly offerings, which run the gamut from soul to electronica to swing. Otis Redding dominates the majority of the new tunes, which is just fine by us. As for the rest, well you’re just going to have to hit the jump to see! Team Fortress 2 updates won’t stop after final class gets new content

by kalaHeirl on Jan.20, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

There’s just one Team Fortress 2 class that’s scraping by without the support of post-launch additional content: The hard hatted, begoggled Engineer. It makes sense that Valve will get to the crafty class sooner or later — but many have wondered whether the developer will keep expanding on the title once the Engineer’s update goes live. Fortunately, a Community Fortress interview with Valve’s Robin Walker confirmed that new TF2 content would drop before and after the final class gets its new equipment.

Undead Labs creating zombie MMO for consoles

by kalaHeirl on Nov.23, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Poor zombies. By hungering for nothing so much as our brain matter, they’ve turned themselves into the most widely-slaughtered video game villains after Nazis and spiders. Now a start-up developer called Undead Labs is taking the zombie genre to the next logical step with a currently untitled zombie-based MMO made specifically for consoles.

Left 4 Dead 2 delayed in UK, due ‘by Friday morning’

by kalaHeirl on Nov.17, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Software, Video Games

We’d usually say it’s a good thing when a zombie invasion gets postponed, but not when we’re talking about Left 4 Dead 2 releasing in the UK a couple days after the rest of the world. According to Valve’s own L4D2 blog , “copies of the game are still arriving” across the pond, with assurances from the developer that it will “have everyone in the UK playing Left 4 Dead 2 by Friday morning.” Wait — everyone in the UK? Whoa now guys! While Xbox 360 owners and PC gamers who still buy physical copies of software are out of luck, Valve says that everyone in the region who pre-ordered L4D2 via Steam can play it right now

Brian May thinks Queen: Rock Band ‘may happen’

by kalaHeirl on Oct.13, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

In a recent interview with the BBC , Queen guitarist Brian May commented on his inclusion in Lego Rock Band, calling his brickification “the ultimate accolade.” Shortly thereafter, the conversation got a bit more fascinating. May mentioned that there had been discussion “going on behind the scenes” about the possibility of a Queen: Rock Band akin to the Beatles-dedicated title, which dropped last month. He later added, “yes, we’re into it, I think it may happen.” Queen’s a great band. A really , really , really great band

by kalaHeirl on Oct.02, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Say it with us, friends, in a high-pitched, sing-song voice: Queen is coming to Rock Band ! A rumor we heard in late August claiming Harmonix is planning to bring a slew of Freddie Mercury-voiced tunes to its rhythm platform is true. In the last week of October, the Music Store will be visited by the following tracks: Another One Bites The Dust Crazy Little Thing Called Love One Vision Fat Bottomed Girls I Want It All I Want to Break Free Killer Queen Somebody to Love Tie Your Mother Down Under Pressure We wonder if they’ll be available as a collection called “All The Good Ones Except for Bohemian Rhapsody.” Ten Queen tracks coming to Rock Band later this month originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 02 Oct 2009 14:29:00 EST.

Here are five minutes of Halo Legends

by kalaHeirl on Sep.21, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Spike got a five-minute look at the upcoming anime Halo Legends , and (as you’ll see for yourself right after the break) it’s got all our favorite tropes of the genre: comically exaggerated animations, vaguely effeminate dudes and very weird-looking soups. Of course, it’s also got something else that’s going to have your eyes glued to all 298 seconds: Master Chief being a total badass and kicking the living crap out of a Brute. Enjoy. by kalaHeirl on Aug.24, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

We had hoped that, at this point, this kind of glowing criticism would be enough to make your buying decisions for you. But, sadly, it seems you still want to hear what others have to say about Batman: Arkham Asylum . Very well

Guitar Hero 5 allows song imports from previous games, features playable Johnny Cash

by kalaHeirl on Aug.08, 2009, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Video Games

We’ve been blown away by the effort Activision and Neversoft have put into making Guitar Hero 5 actually worth playing — but their most recent move may be their wisest yet. A recent IGN preview of the title revealed the game will allow players to import “some” of the tracks from World Tour and Smash Hits into GH5 (and Band Hero ) for a small fee. In addition, 125 of World Tour ’s 128 DLC tracks will automatically work in the two upcoming rhythm titles
