Fabled interview: Peter Molyneux at X10

by misterandersonsik on Feb.12, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

It doesn’t take much for Fable III designer Peter Molyneux to get going on and on about his latest project. We even managed to squeeze in a few questions for the Lionhead boss, who was on hand at yesterday’s X10 media event to unveil his studio’s next grand fable. Of course, it just wouldn’t be polite to kick off a conversation with Molyneux without first checking in on the little one. Joystiq: So, how’s Milo

Take-Two: revenues up in Q4, down overall for the year

by misterandersonsik on Dec.17, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Take-Two warned us (and investors … actually, mostly investors) to expect smaller revenues for the fiscal year that ended October 31, and its fiscal-year results , announced today, hold true to that portent. The company’s net revenue for fiscal 2009 was $968.5 million, down from $1.5 billion. Take-Two attributes the loss to the lack of a game as strong as Grand Theft Auto IV . It wasn’t all bad news, however.

Santa Claus is coming to PlayStation Home

by misterandersonsik on Nov.30, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Santa has added a layover in PlayStation Home to an already-packed holiday itinerary. On December 10, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is opening up a new PlayStation Home space that allows you to see Santa’s workshop through the unique Home filter — by which we mean it’s now kind of eerie. The new Winter Wonderland space will allow you to interact with a vaguely Shatner-esque Santa Claus and elves like Robin Williams here, as you help the crew get all its preparations for Christmas done. Which means minigames ! There will be presents, of course, and a Photo Elf who will take festively decorated pictures of your Home avatar. You know, so you can always remember the time you saved Christmas

Rockstar’s Beaterator subbing for music teachers in some NYC public schools

by misterandersonsik on Nov.22, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Despite a relatively low-key launch on the PSP this past Fall, Rockstar Games’ Beaterator is showing back up in the news this week for reasons that we couldn’t have seen coming from a mile away. It turns out that kids in some NYC public schools are getting their music education by means of the beat making application and PSPs, with a custom workshop being taught by Dubspot . CBS2 News reports that students from the East Side High School in Manhattan are being instructed on not just using Beaterator ’s tools, but also creating fully fleshed out tracks. “They’re able to learn music theory in a different format … it’s the same information, just a different way of presenting it,” the class’ teacher says.

Assassin’s Creed 2 first Ubisoft title to incorporate ‘Uplay’ service

by misterandersonsik on Nov.17, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

With the launch of Assassin’s Creed 2 today, Ubisoft has officially lifted the veil on its Achievement/Trophy-like “Uplay” program. First revealed at E3 (though minimally detailed), Ubisoft claims it to be an “online destination where gamers are at the center of a connected gaming universe,” intended to link all Ubisoft titles across Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Players can access the Uplay portal through the web or in-game, with AC2 being the first title to include the still-in-beta service. Of the “four primary services” Uplay includes – titled “Win,” “Help,” “Share” and “shop” – only Uplay Win is currently available in the beta.

NSMBW is set to invade living rooms on November 20, while Spirit Tracks will be pulling into the station on December 11. Nintendo of America previously confirmed NSMBW for November 15 and Zelda for December 7 ; and Wii Fit Plus releases …

Red Steel 2 director would ‘love’ to see series on 360, PS3

by misterandersonsik on Sep.08, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

During a Q&A session following the PAX demo of Red Steel 2 , creative director Jason VandenBerghe told Joystiq that he would “love” to see Red Steel arrive on other platforms. When asked about the possibilities of the new motion control options headed to PS3 and Xbox 360, VandenBerghe said, “I personally would love to see any and all consoles have more sword fighting experiences.” He then added that any decision to develop the series on other consoles would be up to Ubisoft. Here’s hoping Ubisoft decides to throw us more than a deluge of Rabbids once the 360 and PS3 climb aboard the motion control bandwagon.

Filed under: Podcasts Sure, there’s more Batman: Arkham Asylum , you have to expect that. But there’s also price drop talk, a first-hand account of GamesCom madness from our own Alexander Sliwinski, some sad news for Maxis and, of course, your emails and voicemails. And sorry to disappoint, but we skip the Megan Fox story. All apologies
