Report: Telltale porting its games to Mac, hints at iPad
by PafSmibimiSax on Jan.28, 2010, under Gadgets, Mac, Media, Video Games, iPhone
According to Mac|Life , Telltale will begin supporting the Mac platform starting on Febrary 8 with Tales of Monkey Island — and, a s what can only be described as a great idea, gamers will be able to download both the Mac and PC versions of Telltale’s games for one price. In other words, you won’t have to worry about which version you buy, because you’ll be getting both. Tales of Monkey Island is to be the first title to receive Mac support, with Sam & Max , Wallace & Gromit and Strong Bad to follow (supposedly in that order, by the way). Both seasons of Sam & Max should arrive within “several weeks” of Tales of Monkey Island , with the others arriving in the following months, the site writes. The report also mentions that Telltale plans to convert its entire catalog — with the exception of Bone and Texas Hold ‘Em — according to Mac|Life.

Having already taken a brief tour of Rapture through the eyes of a Big Daddy a few months back, we were okay with the fact that BioShock 2 looked and seemed to play very much like the original game — only this time encased in a huge pressurized diving suit. Now that we’ve played through a full area of the game, our initial assessment more or less holds up, but that’s not to say there aren’t several noteworthy — and even surprising — changes and additions to expect when the game arrives next spring. Warning: We’ve done our best to keep what you’re about to read as spoiler-free as possible, but the extremely sensitive should tread cautiously beyond this point.

Fairytale Fights DLC free for first 90 days with online registration
by PafSmibimiSax on Oct.28, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Playlogic Entertainment’s Fairytale Fights may have just been released today in North America, but the game’s developer is wasting no time at all in kinda, sorta announcing the first downloadable content. We say “kinda, sorta” because the promised four “new playable characters” and three “new PvP arenas” aren’t detailed whatsoever in the press release . Instead, Playlogic opted to announce the DLC with the promise that those who sign up on the Fairytale Fights website will receive a code giving them free access to the digitally-distributed content. The various content is alleged to be “valued at over $15,” so it would serve you wisely to snag your free code if you have any interest whatsoever in picking up a copy of the game. Hell, even if you’re renting, free is free, right

Steam adds EA’s Godfather 2, NFS: Shift, Battlefield 2, more
by PafSmibimiSax on Oct.07, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Electronic Arts’ continued comfort with Steam opening up its sales op-pore-tunities is clear, as the mega-publisher adds six more titles to the service. Valve’s digital distribution network now provides access to: Need for Speed: Shift ($50) The Godfather ($10) The Godfather 2 ($40) Battlefield 2: Complete Collection ($30) Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: Uprising ($20) Medal of Honor: Airborne ($10) Curiously, Steam still doesn’t have EA’s mega-hit The Sims 3 , which is available on Stardock’s competing Impulse system. We’ve asked EA about this discrepancy before, but still don’t have a clear answer. Steam adds EA’s Godfather 2, NFS: Shift, Battlefield 2, more originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 06 Oct 2009 23:01:00 EST

Nintendo tackling pirates again (with the aid of consumer snitches)
by PafSmibimiSax on Oct.05, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Retailers, Video Games
Police officers often employ the aid of criminal informants, a kind of double agent that works behind enemy lines to get all of the dirt on the lowlifes breaking the rules. That’s the new strategy for Nintendo and the 54 other companies that have again jointly filed suit in a Tokyo District Court to thwart the sale of devices used by pirates, such as the R4 . Despite winning the initial filing, Japanese retailers still sell the R4 and other flash carts, so Nintendo and (presumably) the same 54 companies have again filed suit.

Preview: Crackdown 2
by PafSmibimiSax on Sep.30, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
A hands-on preview of Crackdown 2 at TGS last week came with a catch: deathmatch only. No matter how much potential for greatness a game might possess, it’s hard to gauge it’s true character when limited to a boring multiplayer mode. That’s not to say that my time with Crackdown 2 was entirely boring — it wasn’t — but simply playing the most generic mode of all didn’t raise my enthusiasm beyond a mild passing interest. While I wasn’t able to play the game’s single-player campaign, I was shown a rough portion of it in action. Ruffian lead designer Steve Iannetta and producer James Cope showcased the game’s new weapons and enemies (the mutated citizens of Pacific City that were simply referred to as “The Freaks”).

Nier Replicant is sort of different from Nier Gestalt
by PafSmibimiSax on Sep.18, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Square has not one, but two Nier games in the works: one for Xbox, and one for PS3. Nier Replicant is being developed exclusively for PS3, and looks somewhat different from its Gestalt counterpart. Both games feature a white-haired protagonist named Nier, but Replicant ’s lead is a younger, slimmer and a bit more effeminate than the 360’s lead character . Both stories have our hero(es) on a journey to save a family member: in Replicant , it’s a sister, while in Gestalt , it’s a daughter. We’re not entirely sure why Square Enix deemed it necessary to create two same-but-different versions of Nier for the two consoles.

Cut Chemist and J.Period adding three mixes to DJ Hero’s … mix
by PafSmibimiSax on Sep.17, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Comprising approximately 3.22% of DJ Hero ’s 93-song list of tracks , Cut Chemist and J.Period were announced today as joining the enormous list of artists contributing to the game. According to an emailed press release from Activision , J.Period will be creating two “exclusive” new mixes for the game, Q-Tip’s “Good Thang” vs. Billy Squier’s “Big Beat” (as seen above) and Gang Starr’s “Just to Get a Rep” vs. Mobb Deep’s “Shook Ones, Part 2.” Elusively, Activision says Cut Chemist will be offering “a mix featuring unreleased music from one of the biggest bands in the world.” The publisher didn’t offer word on whether or not that’s a confirmation of the JoBro “Burnin’ up” vs.

Spell the day away with Boggle on iPhone
by PafSmibimiSax on Sep.01, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Software, Video Games, iPhone
EA Mobile certainly hopes your fascination with crafting words from letter-filled grids on your iPhone hasn’t waned — the developer recently released a port of Hasbro’s Boggle onto the App Store. Though it lacks Word Scramble ’s robust multiplayer system (and free-ness), it does possess one feature that justifies its $2.99 price tag: Achievements. Lots of achievements
