White Knight Chronicles launch DLC ready to go
by pillikole on Feb.03, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Sony made us wait a few years for a North American release of White Knight Chronicles , but it’s not waiting at all to give us a chance to spend more money on the game — the official Sony blog has news that the first DLC for the game will be out ASAP, offering up microtransactions for items to fill out the in-game “Georama” space, as well as a $4.99 “key” that will allow you to completely re-customize your character without having to start the game all over again. Of course, Sony guarantees that “there is PLENTY for you to work with in the game itself,” but just in case you want to pay a little more of your hard-earned paycheck, Sony will be happy to take it. And finally, just in time for launch day, it’s offered up a brand new trailer. That won’t cost you anything but a click on the link below, as it’s available to watch after the break. Mass Effect 2 ’super elite’ 360 bundle bound for Australia only, EA says
by pillikole on Jan.18, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
EA has confirmed it will only be shipping its $600 AUD ($550 USD), 250GB HDD-equipped “super elite” Xbox 360 bundle (breath) to Australia, according to a report from VG247 . “This is a local bundle deal that the [EA Australia] team has sorted,” an EA representative explained. The bundle is said to contain two black wireless controllers (standard Microsoft issue) and a wired headset; a regular, non- fancy copy of Mass Effect 2 ; an Xbox 360 Elite (sans promotional artwork, unfortunately); and a 250GB HDD. Just like the Modern Warfare 2 “Super Elite” console, we imagine supplies will be limited — to Australia, in this case. No-win scenario: Star Trek Online pre-order bonuses
by pillikole on Dec.07, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Much like the dreaded Kobayashi Maru , there really is no right answer to the question, “Where should I pre-order Star Trek Online ?” In its ongoing mission to make games as hard to purchase as possible, Starfleet has issued different pre-order bonuses to each major American retailer. Want to pilot the Enterprise? You’ll have to order from GameStop.

When the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was announced for the Wii , we kinda had to do a double-take on the whole thing. Would one of the current generation’s most popular games be done justice on the Wii? Well, according to what few reviews have made their way online, yes ..

Chet Faliszek crushes Left 4 Dead 2 DLC rumors
by pillikole on Nov.01, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Rumors, Video Games
Remember those pair of error messages that a few folks found in the demo for Left 4 Dead 2 demo which seemed to indicate the upcoming release of two DLC packs, titled “Miracle” and “Apocalypse?” Yeah, those ain’t no thing . At least, not according to Valve’s Chet Faliszek, who recently addressed the error messages while speaking at the Eurogamer Expo . “What, those error messages,” he reportedly said, “why, those ain’t no thing .” Of course, Kotaku’s slightly more accurate transcription of this quote had him saying, “if you’re reading in the forums and you’re reading about the “Miracle” DLC or whatever, that’s test code.” He added, “to get tested through Microsoft certification we had to do test scenarios with DLC. We haven’t actually come out internally with what we’re going to do yet.” Hmph . We liked our version better.

Jersey sales in Home support breast cancer awareness charity

The sentence following this sentence will be completely unprecedented for this humble news blog: We completely endorse the practice of spending real-life money on virtual articles of clothing — provided that clothing is the jersey seen above. Sure, black and pink jerseys may not be your style , but when you purchase that shirt in PlayStation Home’s EA Sports Complex, the entirety of your $2.00 goes to the charity of New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees , the Brees Dream Foundation, which raises money for breast cancer awareness. Though altruism is its own reward, we’ll sweeten the pot even further: Anyone seen wearing this jersey will be granted amnesty from our Quincying , which has grown increasingly violent over the past few months.

WoW requires Battle.net login starting Nov. 11
by pillikole on Oct.14, 2009, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Video Games
A quick note for the World of Warcraft fans out there: Starting on November 11 (Nov. 12 in Europe, apparently), all WoW players will be required to log into the game using a Battle.net account — presumably to pave the way for the upcoming new features . Our friends at WoW.com have put together some handy resources to make the change as painless as possible. They’ve also compiled a quick list of solutions for players that are still resistant to the idea. For those that have yet to merge their current WoW account with Battle.net, now’s the time to get it done
