It’s a new year, and the hammer must fall once more on the EA games that the company has deemed “unfit” to play. But the server shutdowns (which are traditionally closer to the middle of the year) are earlier than ever this time (beginning February 2), so fans of Facebreaker , Fantasy Football 09 , Fight Night Round 3 on PS2, and many other soon-to-be retired online sports games have little time to achieve their last feats of glory.

EA pulling plug on older sports games’ servers

EA has just announced that a new round of pummelers and pummelees have signed on for EA Sports MMA . The game’s site lists seven new fighters in total: Cung Le, Gilbert Melendez, Robbie Lawler, Ronaldo Souza, Matt Lindland, Scott Smith, and Josh Thomson — a few of whom have participated in UFC fights in the past. Considering the UFC president’s stance toward EA’s game , we have to wonder if their participation jeopardizes their chances with the UFC in the future. Rios and Salem have a tough choice to make in this latest trailer for Army of Two: The 40th Day . The clip highlights the game’s new morality system , a set of scripted events where the player (or players, if you’re rocking co-op) must make a choice, shaping the way the game plays out. In the video above, the same scene we saw at E3, Rios and Salem find a gun stash, but a nearby officer walks in and catches the two in the act.

New Army of Two: 40th Day trailer takes aim at morality

If, for some reason, you should find yourself in need of an alternative to Steam but don’t want to miss out on LucasArts’s recent reissuing of back catalog titles , you’re in luck. IGN has sealed a deal to distribute the publisher’s titles via its Direct2Drive service, beginning today with The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition for $9.95. Unfortunately, the announcement makes no mention of what other LucasArts games will be offered, saying only that there will be others.
