Activision: Blur multiplayer beta focusing in on March
by WilliamTiolkin on Feb.10, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
During its 2009 financial earnings report, Activision CEO Michael Griffith noted that Bizarre Creations’ recently-delayed Blur would have a multiplayer beta available next month. No specific platforms were mentioned, though a recent German rating suggests it will at least be on the Xbox 360. We don’t think it’ll end up being exclusive to Microsoft’s platform — after all, you might as well test multiplayer on all the systems a game will be released on, if you’re running a beta — but there’s currently no indication to suggest otherwise

PlayStation Motion Controller’s release date moves to fall 2010
by WilliamTiolkin on Jan.20, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Software, Video Games
Sony has just announced that the still-unnamed PlayStation Motion Controller won’t hit its targeted spring 2010 release date — it’s now slated for a worldwide release this fall. In a press release, SCEI president Kaz Hirai cited a desire to “offer an exciting and varied line-up of software titles that will deliver the new entertainment experience to PS3 users” as the reason for the delay, and indicated that Sony will be revealing the launch software lineup soon, including first-party games and games from other companies, “whom we have been working closely with.” The good news is that Sony now has more time not only to line up third party support for the peripheral, but come up with a name as well. The bad news is that Sony is dropping whatever advantage an earlier release would have given the device over the much more publicized Xbox 360 motion controller, Project Natal .

EEDAR predicts DS2 will be announced this year
by WilliamTiolkin on Jan.15, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
In a recent report, EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich has predicted that Nintendo will announce its next handheld — let’s call it the DS2 — within the next eight months. Furthermore, Divnich believes that the product will be released within fifteen months. “one of the biggest reasons for Nintendo’s success in the handheld market is their ability to remove opportunity gaps for competitors to enter,” says Divnich, citing the early release of the DS, which effectively stymied the chances for the PSP a year later.

Man leaps past George Costanza’s fictional Frogger score
by WilliamTiolkin on Jan.05, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Seinfeld isn’t just the greatest sitcom ever (don’t try to argue with us, you’re wrong ), it’s actually relevant in the games landscape. See, the classic coin-op Frogger was featured prominently in one of the last episodes of the show. In said episode, George Costanza scored a whopping 860,630 points — a score many believed to be laughably high.

You may download PC/360 Devil May Cry 4 on December 22
by WilliamTiolkin on Dec.15, 2009, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Has the pernicious dealing with retail requirement kept you from the ongoing, stylish adventures of Nero and Dante (not that Dante )? Capcom has good news for those of us with no tolerance for relics like stores and boxes : starting December 22, the PC version of Devil May Cry 4 will be available for download on “the digital distribution partner of your choice,” including, of course, Capcom’s own shop , where pre-orders are being accepted for $29.99. The 360 version will hit Games on Demand , along with Lost Planet Colonies Edition , the same day. Capcom notes that the PC version of the action game features some enhancements not found in the console versions: altered enemy placements, a “Turbo Mode,” an extra-difficult “Legendary Dark Knight Mode,” among several visual tweaks

CBS bringing Diagnosis Murder, some other stuff to gaming platforms
by WilliamTiolkin on Nov.04, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
CBS announced today that it’s bringing a wide array of its TV programming to the video game world, mainly via the PC, Wii and DS. As you can see after the break, the company revealed equally insipid-sounding game versions of Survivor , Hollywood Squares , The Amazing Race, and Criminal Minds , but we don’t see how we’re supposed to care about any of it when it was also revealed that a Diagnosis Murder game is in the works. We’re assuming it’s a Visceral-developed “dark” take on the DM mythos, with a Gothic Dr. Mark Sloan walking a demonic version of Los Angeles, solving murder mysteries with a caduceus-shaped staff dipped in angel blood. We assume this because we laid out the design doc pretty clearly in our letters, and we can’t fathom why CBS would want to disappoint us.

Retailers move Silent Hill: Shattered Memories release date again
by WilliamTiolkin on Oct.12, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Retailers, Video Games
Konami has yet to offer an official release date for Silent Hill: Shattered Memories , and the unofficial release dates keep shifting identities like some kind of haunted village. After Nintendo dated the game on its release schedule , we thought we could safely expect the game in November, but retailers have changed their dates once again. GameStop now expects to have Shattered Memories in stock on December 8 . GameFly, whose dates tend to differ from official ones by a few days, lists the Wii game as being available November 26, but the PS2 and PSP versions on December 31 . Wal-Mart’s dates put the Wii version at November 24 and the PlayStation games on Christmas Day (which is probably not the real ship date, on account of there not being any mail delivery that day)
