WRUP: The truly, truly outrageous edition
by unsareruime on Jul.31, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
As of this writing, it is past midnight in jolly ol’ England, which means that our dear Jem Alexander is no longer a part of the Joystiq staff. He has left us to go work for … um, actually, I’m not allowed to say, but it’s SO not in NY. Jem’s Britishisms and the way he would say amazing (a sampling of which is found below) will be greatly missed — you have no idea — as a moment of levity the next time we’re banging out stories at 2AM during next year’s E3. We’ve asked Joystiq staffers to say the first word they think of when discussing Jem and here are the results: excitement, adventure, glamour, glitter, fashion and fame.

Mothership Zeta is ‘final’ Fallout 3 DLC
by MyBestCreditOffers on Jul.31, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
It appears that Fallout 3 ’s Mothership Zeta is the last DLC adventure for the wanderer of the Captial Wasteland. MTV Multiplayer took note of the wording on Bethesda’s website for the game. We’re currently following up with Bethesda to see if they have called it quits on the Wasteland, which means that the next time we’ll be hearing from the world of Fallout will be during our trip to New Vegas next year

JBO: Joystiq Box Office, July 20 – July 31
by uugakom on Jul.31, 2009, under Blu-Ray, Features, Gadgets, Media, Video Games
We can’t be gaming all the time, despite our best efforts, and from time to time we’ll actually take advantage of the movie-playing abilities on our gaming systems. JBO features our top picks for XBL, PSN, Netflix’s Watch Instantly and Blu-ray each week. We had to skip the Joystiq Box Office last week, due to the fact that Comic-Con took over this particular writer’s duties (if interested, you can see some of what went on both here and over on Cinematical ). Luckily, a lot of good stuff has come out in the meantime, and we’re back! Recommendation of the Week: Watchmen: The End is Nigh The Complete Experience (Blu-ray: $49.99 SRP): You probably figured this one was coming.

New Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story trailer from the inside, out
by Thalaamultamp on Jul.31, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
We’re just about as excited as we could be for the next iteration in the long-running Mario & Luigi RPG series, Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story . It’s been so long since we last got to try our hand at timing-centric, turn-based combat in the Mushroom Kingdom and, well, we really enjoyed our time with the game at E3 . The newest trailer shows off a good deal of what we described from E3, with the ill-fated plumbers working with Bowser from the inside to solve problems in the outside world. Now all we need is a bit more of a solid release date than ” this fall ” — how about it, Nintendo? Gallery: Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story (DS) New Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story trailer from the inside, out originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 31 Jul 2009 20:15:00 EST.

Dawn of War 2 leads Steam weekend sale
by YahonsenBurst on Jul.31, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
This weekend’s Steam sale is 50 percent off Relic titles, including the developer’s latest, Dawn of War II . Not only that, but a DoW II purchase also includes the “There is only war” DLC, which adds 8 new multiplayer maps, a map editor and more. But wait, there’s more! Since they’re Relic games , Company of Heroes and the original Dawn of War are also included. Don’t let the WWII theme turn you off from Company of Heroes ; beyond its cliche setting is an enjoyably deep RTS experience and a long campaign — definitely worth $10.

GameStop hops on the casual bandwagon
by ZooxyAnyclelo on Jul.31, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
GameStop ’s online additions just keep, uh, adding up , as the games retailer now has a dedicated space for casual games. As part of the launch, GameStop is taking 50% off of hot titles such as Governor of Poker and Samantha Swift and The Golden Touch . If we didn’t already snatch up the latter day one , we’d be all over this.

Disney Interactive posts 20 percent losses in third quarter, citing bad economy
by loofosyrets on Jul.31, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Businesses don’t adhere to the same rules we silly humans do; the cycle of the Earth around the sun, for instance. Disney Interactive Media Group is no exception, posting its quarter three financial results — the quarter that ends in June, folks — just this week. According to Gamasutra , revenue dropped by $29 million year over year, which company CEO Robert A. Iger said during a conference call was due to “adverse economic conditions.” Though Iger didn’t specifically spell it out, we would imagine that investing in the development of multiple major titles in Split/Second and, um ..
