Mirror’s Edge iPhone leaps to ‘early 2010′ release
by Aseessinasas on Jan.08, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games, iPhone
It would appear our favorite little Runner, Faith, has hit a bit of a wall. IGN reports her iPhone outing has been pushed back from its previous January release window to a much more vague “early 2010.” We’re bummed, but hey, it’s better than EA forgetting about the Mirror’s Edge franchise entirely — a real, entirely horrible, possibility, we might add. IGN says this delay is to add some content and polish to the experience, which we’re all for.

R-Type to shoot ‘em up on iPhone
by UtesteSuemn on Nov.10, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Software, Video Games, iPhone
DotEmu, the developer responsible for the random iPhone port of the Zelda- esque Golvellius , is porting a much more recognizable game to the platform for its next release: IREM’s epochal shmup, R-Type . CEO Xavier Liard told Touch Arcade , “We are very pleased to work on R-Type and to start our collaboration with Irem Software Engineering Inc.” DotEmu didn’t announce which of the many versions of R-Type will be the basis of the port. Having IREM involved seems like a good sign and, while the touch interface is not ideal for shooting games, Space Invaders Infinity Gene proved that it can work, at least better than it does for platforming or run & gun games. Of course, R-Type is really, really difficult, and the iPhone’s controls aren’t going to make destroying the Bydo Empire any easier. R-Type to shoot ‘em up on iPhone originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 10 Nov 2009 17:00:00 EST.

Rumor: Skate 3 in the works
by Fragialirwela on Jul.03, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Apparently EA is working on a sequel to Skate 2 , if the Epicly Trife twitter is to be believed. Epicly Trife ( NSFW ) is a site dedicated to skating, and its twitter account said the following: “I just got told ‘tonight we gotta celebrate,’ one of the bro’s got offered to be in SKATE 3 .” By no means a confirmation, we’re still excited, as Skate 2 was not only a great sequel, but pretty much the best skating sim around. Plus, it’s much easier to get up after falling down four flights of stairs in a video game, as gravity is a much more harsh mistress in real life.

Advocacy FAIL: L4D2 pre-order sales double of original, says Valve
by Agokbomma on Jul.03, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
For all the talk of petitions and boycotts over Left 4 Dead 2 ’s sooner-than-expected release, the game doesn’t seem to be suffering much. A Valve representative tells Eurogamer that pre-orders for the sequel are currently double that of the original’s pre-order figures from the same time last year . Although that sounds impressive, it’s possible to see some spin in there — Left 4 Dead didn’t really have its big coming-out party until E3 2008, which technically wouldn’t occur for another two weeks from now. Couple that with general sequel buzz and you might have your inflated pre-order figure. Nitpicks aside, Valve has already stated that it plans to continue supporting Left 4 Dead with more content

Activision explains DJ Hero pricing, says game offers ‘tremendous value’
by ronaldslim on Jul.03, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Retailers, Video Games
( click to Afrika Bambaataa-size ) The retailer pricing of DJ Hero found recently — $120 bucks! — has some folks wondering why Activision may have upped the price for its usual game-plus-peripheral combo. The company has offered an explanation answer to Eurogamer , saying, “We believe that DJ Hero will provide tremendous value for our consumers by delivering an all-new interactive music experience with over 100 individual songs that are highlighted in over 80 unique mixes, a wide variety of …” … Sorry, we nodded off there for a minute. Between the $250 for The Beatles: Rock Band and another $120 for Tony Hawk: Ride , we’re up late a lot, worrying about affording all these plastic game controllers — and a bigger house to put them all in

Sony: Expect bigger, better PSN around Spring 2010
by stevenslim on Jun.26, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Storage, Video Games
Sir Howard Stringer has big plans for PSN . He said as much last month, commenting that as long as PSN is tied solely to the PS3, the network would never be able to reach its full potential. It’s set to reach for the stars in Spring 2010, apparently, as Kaz Hirai recently commented to CNN . “It’s now a matter of what all the services need to look like for each device, and coming up with a rollout plan,” said Hirai. “It’s like city planning here, and we can start small

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune movie underway at Columbia Pictures

It’s been nearly a year, but remember when we broke the news that pirate-murdering simulator and half-tuck trendsetter Uncharted was making its way from the wilds of the video game jungle to the majesty of the silver screen? Looks like our original source was dead-on: Atlas Entertainment had optioned the rights for the title last year and now, with a script by Kyle Ward of “Kane & Lynch” and “Hitman 2″ game-to-not-yet-movie fame – they’ve found a partner in Columbia Pictures. For those of you not well versed in the corporate parentage of movie studios (Gulf + Western who?) we’ll remind you: Columbia Pictures is part of the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group.

Jason Rohrer: Spielberg’s ‘LMNO’ project probably cancelled
by HefZoowReek on Jun.26, 2009, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Rumors, Video Games
Before it was known as Boom Blox , Steven Spielberg’s puzzle game project was known as PQRS , and it was revealed alongside an Xbox 360/PS3 action game, codenamed LMNO , about a former secret agent on the run with a dynamic AI character. Boom Blox , of course, was released to great critical acclaim, but LMNO hasn’t been so lucky.
