Whitesnake songs coming to one music game or another, Coverdale not sure

by mishkamiha on Feb.16, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Sure, you could guess that it was sex, drugs or rock and roll that addled Whitesnake vocalist David Coverdale’s mind so much that he can’t recall with any clarity which music game franchise he recently approved the band’s “Here I Go Again” and “Still of the Night” for. And you’d probably be right — if anyone took too many drugs and rocked a little too hard in the late ’80s, it was probably Coverdale. But don’t jump to conclusions

Def Leppard: The Game may be in the works

by CharlesZI on Jan.05, 2010, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Reuters reports that music publishing company Primary Wave has struck a deal with Brit rockers Def Leppard to create a cartoon series and video game based on the band. Primary Wave CEO Larry Mestel said the video game project is “unusual,” presumably not just because it features Def Leppard. Though we have it on good authority that neither project will ever see the light of day, we’re pushing for a Wii game. Just think: Simulated drumming without the need for that pesky nunchuk attachment. by Sliniupsliano on Dec.05, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

In simple terms, Green Day and Rock Band are friends. Left 4 Dead 2’s Midnight Riders get a gloriously bearded teaser page

by Hoplomom on Nov.19, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Zombie obliterators who’ve managed to survive Left 4 Dead 2 ’s “Dark Carnival” campaign are probably familiar with the Southern rock outfit known as the Midnight Riders. While they’re not exactly an enormous focus in the game’s overarching story, a teaser page featuring the heavily bearded band (and a cryptic “Coming Soon”) is leading some folks to believe that the Riders will soon play a much larger role in the game’s proceedings. Given the number of facial hair-sporting members of the band (see: four), we’re really hoping to get some form of DLC that turns them into playable characters.

Sony finally launches PS2 in Brazil (or, welcome to 2000!)

by TepeTrupbrugh on Nov.19, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

We don’t live in Brazil, but from what we hear, it’s not one of the most gamer-friendly places out there. Piracy runs rampant and whenever any kind of controversial game releases, citizens usually find their government won’t let ‘em play it. But, hey, things are kinda looking up! Reader Renato wrote in to us saying the PS2 has finally officially released in Brazil and that consumers can get it from the Sony Style store now … for the low, low price of 799 BRL (about 461 USD).

New Left 4 Dead 2 TV spot, Scavenge mode walkthrough

by InwaiderrBena on Nov.04, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Just in case GameStop’s Left 4 Dead 2 commercial was a little too slow-paced for you, Valve has released a new TV spot that’s nothing but action. Of course, that action is culled entirely from the CG trailer that was leaked last month, so you won’t see anything new here. You will hear something new, however, as the commercial has been injected with a thumping blues-rock soundtrack, making the whole thing feel like a big, sprawling, undead bar fight. Come to think of it, it sounds like Joystiq Publishing just found its next game. No one has the rights to Undead Bar Fight , right

Blizzard opens real-money pet store in WoW

by bittersweetca on Nov.04, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Blizzard just opened a huge can of worms — or of pandas, in this case. The company announced the opening of an in-game pet store in World of Warcraft , wherein players can purchase their own Pandaren Monk or Lil’ K.T., the Littlest Lich , for ten bucks. Half of the purchase price of the Monk goes to the Make-a-Wish Foundation until the end of the year, but all of the Lil’ K.T. proceeds go to Blizzard’s spare Ferrari fund. Blizzard currently offers for-pay services including realm transfers, race and faction changes, and character appearance edits, but this shop offers the first in-game items for sale — and these items are exclusive to the Pet Store

Rock Band Weekly: Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Joan Jett

by SarEvilia on Oct.30, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Next week’s Rock Band DLC could have been a little Dave Grohl fiesta, offering up tracks from his days back in Nirvana and now with Foo Fighters, but it turns out that he wasn’t with the genre defining grunge band until after Bleach , which happens to be part of next week’s DLC. But, we’re pretty sure Grohl was with Foo Fighters during the time they recorded the tracks that make up the band’s third DLC pack for the music game. Completely unrelated to Grohl (maybe there’s a six degrees of separation in there?), there will also be one track from Ms. Joan Jett thrown in the mix. Check out the update after the break, along with what portable players can expect from Rock Band Unplugged ’s DLC.
