In an interview with Financial Post , Microsoft president of entertainment and devices Robbie Bach said “something like 70% or 80% of the publishers in the world” are already working on Natal-based games. The interview followed Microsoft’s CES 2010 keynote during which Bach announced the hands-free controller for the Xbox 360 would launch during the 2010 holiday season . Bach also respectfully outlined what he believes is the major difference between Microsoft and Nintendo’s respective business models: third-party success.

Gameloft still enjoying lofty sales despite continuing recession

Gameloft, which happily announced increased sales in Q1 of 2009 despite the fact that it was, you know, Q1 of 2009 , after announcing increased sales in 2008, has released its results for the first half of 2009. Guess what? “Gameloft achieved consolidated sales of EUR60.1 million for the first half of 2009,” the statement reads, “up by 20% from the previous year.” 95 percent of Gameloft’s sales for this period came from mobile games, a business that grew thanks to the increasing popularity of the iPhone App Store. Clearly, releasing the same soccer and brick-breaking games on every platform ever is a business model that more publishers should be looking into

Micro-transaction model a possibility for WoW
by allerneillugh on Jul.05, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
VideoGamer.com’s recent interview with Blizzard’s Tom Chilton, game director for the totally underground MMO World of Warcraft , is full of interesting tidbits for the WoW -innoculated — info on the possible new races and classes that could make their way into the new expansions, in-game territories yet to be explored, etc. However, one blurb from the interview has the online gaming world a-buzzin’ — probably because said blurb references the possibility of a free-to-play, micro-transaction business model for the monolithic title. Don’t get your dander up too fast — Chilton merely said, “I certainly think it’s possible that we could do some kind of micro-transaction stuff,” later adding that, “whether we ever shift to a free-to-play model is really too hard to say at this point.” It’s unlikely they’ll make the switch as long as the game continues to be a veritable assembly line for giant bags of money, however. What do you guys think?
