Hands-on: PlayStation Move’s ‘Move Party’

by asceby on Mar.11, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Software, Video Games

Click to enlarge The PlayStation Move -equivalent of the minigame compilations released for PS2’s EyeToy, Move Party is an excuse to use Sony’s motion controller to look like a fool in front of your family and friends. (As if holding a glowing wand and pantomiming playing a sport isn’t already silly enough.) Ludwig and I took turns looking utterly ridiculous while playing the title earlier today, trying to best one another in a series of minigames which ranged from swatting bugs with tennis rackets to painting shapes in the air – things that would have been entirely possible with Sony’s older tech. We got a brief taste of the Move’s potential when we needed to stab a spear at jellyfish floating up the screen – I really had to stab toward the screen pretty strongly to pop them. The precision possible with the Move was best demonstrated by the haircut minigame, where it was possible to finely cut along the scalp line to remove the comical characters’ locks. The most impressive element of Move Party , though, is by far the precision with which the various tools – paintbrushes, shears, rackets – that all mimicked how I was holding the controller exactly in the on-screen “augmented reality” video

Hands-on: PlayStation Move’s ‘The Shoot’

by NourorofSkirm on Mar.11, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

“The Shoot” is a pretty fun title. The on-rails shooter propels you through a series of cheesy movie sets, populated by cardboard cut-out civilians, antiquated B-movie aliens and hulking robots. And then you shoot them … on the shoot . See

by doreorlecterY on Jan.25, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Here’s some awesome news: according to a press release sent out by Nintendo, Monster Hunter Tri will be available in North America this April — which means that Capcom essentially delayed it as little as possible. Here’s some more awesome news: it’ll be available in a bundle with the Classic Controller Pro , the upgraded version of the Classic Controller that was previously only available in Japan. The set will cost $59.99. Even if you’re not interested in Monster Hunter, you’ll be able to get one separately, in black or white, for the same $19.99 price Nintendo charges for the regular Classic Controller.

The Emotiv Epoc brain controller is supposedly out now … did you get one?

by Emamurams on Dec.23, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Project Natal aims to revolutionize video games by doing one simple thing: removing the controller from the video game equation. The Emotiv Epoc aims to revolutionize video games even harder by removing the entire human body from the video game equation … well, except the brain.

Sony Motion Controller patent features swappable buttons, connectors

by forexitunes on Dec.08, 2009, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Video Games

If you’re excited about finally having a waggle wand for your PS3, but wondering how weird plastic add-ons might fit into the activities, these patent images reveal that Sony is thinking about all that and more . And by “more” we mean: things that might actually be kind of useful. While the designs detailed in this patent application aren’t necessarily being considered for the retail release, they’re at least an indication of what ideas have been thrown around for the Playstation Motion Controller . Considering that the patent was filed in April, well before the prototypes we’ve seen were produced, we do have our doubts about many of these illustrations being worked into the final model. Several methods are shown for turning the Motion Controller into a Dual Shock-esque device, from an inconspicuous bar through the middle of two, to a weird handle with buttons on it that snakes around and connects to the top of the wand

Game controller Christmas tree ornaments, minus all the plastic

by SpidermanDudez on Nov.25, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

If you’re anything like us, you’ve spent countless hours of your youth hollowing out old gaming controllers for use as gigantic Christmas tree ornaments. Though these might have resulted in years of lopsided tree dilemmas, our penchant for hanging something that at least resembles our favorite gaming controllers on the tree never subsided. Lucky for us that Ponoko user ” digits ” shares our unique affectation, making a variety of controller-themed ornaments in a handful of different colors.
