Crysis 2 details abound in latest Edge
by prursewalreli on Feb.15, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Make sure to buy a box of Wetnaps along with that copy of the new issue of Edge Magazine , because that thing’s got Crysis 2 details leaking out if it all over the place. We already know the game will take place in New York , but according to the developer, it’ll be “a New York City like none in games or cinema.” Crytek is more interested in having the city environment act as a focus on the action rather than a big open sandbox, so while you’ll see lots of the city above, you’ll only be able to travel in “constrained freedom,” or only about “three storeys up and down.” The magazine also contains info about the new Nanosuit 2 , which seems to augment not only your physical powers, but sensory perception in various modes as well, giving you the ability to hear conversations at a distance or see directional bullet trails or x-rays.

Section 8 still preparing to drop on PS3
by ramitaurf on Feb.15, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
The possibility of jetpack-rich, Tribes -esque action on PS3 just got a little less nebulous. Speaking with IGN , a TimeGate spokesperson said that the developer’s Section 8 would be coming to PS3 at some point, though no formal release window has been settled on. The news shouldn’t come as a surprise to the Joystiq faithful, as we reported last December that TimeGate had alleged that publisher SouthPeak entered into an unauthorized PS3 licensing deal for the game with Russian company 1C. Whether or not the suit will keep the game in legal limbo (and for how long if so) remains to be seen

PopCap thinks iPad will change gaming, but not for years
by CasseUnaceCak on Feb.13, 2010, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Video Games, iPhone
Are you ready for the upcoming revolution (in approximately three years), when Apple’s iPad begins to deliver on the “magical” capabilities that Steve Jobs promised not so long ago? We’re not exactly on board yet either, but PopCap’s co-founder John Vechey believes that we should be prepared for such a possibility. In speaking with Eurogamer , he says, “The iPad’s important, but I think it’s going to be more important in three years … it’s probably going to take the second generation to make it really, like, ‘Wow!’” Before addressing gaming, he admits, “This is my opinion ..

Bungie: Halo Reach multiplayer takes ‘big risks’
by aerobuldozer on Feb.11, 2010, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Video Games
When asked if Bungie was sticking to the tried-and-true multiplayer formula in the upcoming prequel Halo: Reach , creative director Marcus Lehto told Joystiq the developer would be taking some “pretty big risks” for its final Halo title. “While we’ll still have all of the good stuff that players have come to know and love about Halo , we’ve made that better and given them new features on top of that,” Lehto said. Lehto wouldn’t detail the new risky features, but he would confirm players would see the “new multiplayer features” during the Reach multiplayer beta; beginning May 3 . Lehto also reiterated that “currently” the multiplayer beta would only be accessible through a Halo 3: ODST disc. Brainstorm with us, folks: What new features do you hope for in Halo: Reach multiplayer

by utellallelm on Feb.11, 2010, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Video Games
This week’s Famitsu (via Andriasang ) confirms Capcom’s Lost Planet 2 will include offline splitscreen co-op when it releases May 18 . Series producer Jun Takeuchi told Joystiq last year at GamesCom that the developer was working on couch co-op for the game, which already features four player online co-op . The split screen will reportedly be similar to Resident Evil 5 ’s staggered screens, maintaining the aspect ratio and cutting down on the hardware requirements . So, go ahead and play Lost Planet 2 snuggled with a buddy on the couch or drinking beers with the spouse when it releases …

Wii to fret over ‘Rock of the Dead’
by Lulfumosteoms on Feb.11, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
All you really need to know about Rock of the Dead is that it’s — as the developers at Epicenter ( Real Heroes: Firefighters ) describe — Typing of the Dead meets Guitar Hero . Judging by the build demonstrated to IGN , the game allows you to use a Rock Band or Guitar Hero ax to chop through the legions of the undead. Obviously, a guitar peripheral will be mandatory, though the developer is preparing contingency plan should Nintendo frown upon the requirement. There’s quite a bit of nerdy star power behind the game, with Neil Patrick Harris voicing the main character and Felicia Day featuring as the love interest.

Jellyvision suing Aflac over ‘You Don’t Know Jack’ parody
by cecnesa on Jan.28, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Now, see, we were pretty certain that nobody was still working for Jellyvision — however, we wouldn’t be willing to risk a pricey copyright infringement suit over that assertion. According to the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer , Aflac recently drew the ire of the developer by designing a new web-based promotion titled You Don’t Know Quack . Jellyvision now seeks a court order to prevent Aflac from trademarking the title, as well as monetary damages. Hopefully, if the studio wins, they’ll spend said damages on developing a new You Don’t Know Jack , and not, you know, yachts .
