LGJ: You down with FCC?
by Totsdyday on Sep.05, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Each week Mark Methenitis contributes Law of the Game on Joystiq (“LGJ”), a column on legal issues as they relate to video games : With its proposal for universal ratings , the FCC is in the news again. Yet, despite its filings having become a gold mine for breaking news, from bigger Slims to the secrets of turntablism , many people are not entirely familiar with what exactly the FCC does — beyond, of course, Family Guy’s take on the organization. The Federal Communications Commission was created by the Communications Act of 1934 as the successor to the Federal Radio Commission.

ESRB: Sing about urine and unprotected sex in SingStar Latino
by Anna kroshunicka on Sep.05, 2009, under Gadgets, How To, Media, Video Games
Looks like Sony is expanding its SingStar library once again with SingStar Latino , an upcoming Spanish-language karaoke collection for PS2 and PS3. The ESRB description reads like a Harlequin novel at times, referencing “tight pants, bikini tops, bra-like tops, shirts/dresses that expose deep cleavage” and even more scandalous — “touching breasts and crotch, grinding and gyrating hips.” Is it getting warm in here? The ESRB also highlights some lyrics that are simply bizarre when taken out of context. One song seemingly encourages unprotected sex, according to the ESRB’s translations: “Y no me hables de sexo seguro” [And don't talk to me about safe sex.] The full song — Chenoa’s “Cuando tu vas” — is about love over sex. As for this lyric

FCC document indicates Sony planning 250GB PS3 Slim
by Ovettelah on Aug.18, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
When it rains PS3 news, it evidently pours PS3 news (which is better than pouring actual PS3s — that’d hurt !). A document dug up on the FCC website by PS3News appears to hold proof that Sony is already planning a follow-up — albeit in capacity only — to the 120 gigabyte PS3 Slim announced today . Carrying the model number CECH-2001B (as opposed to ending in “A”), the unit is listed as sporting a 250GB hard disk. The document states that the two consoles (along with two Slim debug unit models) were actually tested by the FCC back in March of this year and seem to have been sneakily submitted by Sony Computer Entertainment America under the guise of a fictitious business (Sand Dollar Enterprise) located at … SCEA’s Foster City, Calif

Video: Telltale teases Tales of Monkey Island’s second episode
by Entainieleply on Aug.18, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
One of the best things about being a pirate must be seeing all of the awesome cave structures littering the Caribbean. There are caves shaped like skulls, caves hiding trunks of gold doubloons and, in the case of Tales of Monkey Island ’s second episode Siege of Spinner Cal , caves for chatting with your special someone. It’s a heck of a lot more romantic than those seedy motels you often frequent. Oh yes, we’re watching you

$40.00 DTV Converter Box Coupons
by Joseph Rybka on Dec.27, 2007, under DTV, On the Web, Retailers
Starting Feb. 17, 2009 the U.S. Analog TV broadcasting will be gone for good. Meaning that if you don’t have a digital TV, or a DTV Converter Box your current TV will be pretty much useless. For those of you that are or will be signed up with cable or satellite service, the current set top box should accommodate the DTV Transition. For the few that don’t subscribe to cable or satellite service and are happy watching only the local channels, TV will come to a screeching halt.
(The FCC has mandated that cable carriers must support analog TV sets until at least 2012) (continue reading…)
