by ecimic on Feb.01, 2010, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Video Games

There are a couple of interesting games hidden in an unusually crowded lineup of new Nintendo downloads. The Tales of Monkey Island series concludes, Alex Kidd appears in a weird crossover game, and DSiWare features a game that uses the camera for motion controls. And somehow, Digital Leisure released the same game twice! Find out how that happened (and what all the other new games are) after the break. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Hoth DLC coming to XBLM after all

by prelterce on Dec.17, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

As luck would have it, that one missing piece of content for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed that was “exclusive” to the ” Ultimate Sith Edition ” of the game — the obligatory Hoth level — seems to be heading to Xbox Live Marketplace. Spotted by Joystiq reader Andy in the “Coming Soon” section of the XBLM (and seen above), the ” Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Hoth Bonus Level” certainly appears to be heading to, at very least, Xbox 360 users. We’ve contacted LucasArts to find out how much the content will cost, when we can expect to see it arrive on Xbox Live for download, and if it will be coming to PlayStation 3 and PC users as well. [Thanks Andy!] Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Hoth DLC coming to XBLM after all originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 17 Dec 2009 10:30:00 EST

So long, 2500 Modern Warfare 2 Steam cheaters

by ActilireCreep on Nov.30, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Employing Steam’s built-in VAC anti-cheating system, Infinity Ward has dropped the ban hammer on its first round of Modern Warfare 2 cheaters – 2,500 PC gamers, more specifically. In responding to a question on Twitter last Friday, community man Robert Bowling said, “The Steam ban hammer is coming down on about 2,500 confirmed #MW2 cheaters on PC today .” We contacted Bowling to find out how frequently the bans will be taking place and have yet to hear back.

Ubisoft planning 10 games for Natal, ‘4 to 5′ for PlayStation Motion Controller

by ranipoojax on Nov.30, 2009, under Gadgets, Mac, Media, Video Games

During the question and answer portion of an investor conference call this afternoon, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot clarified his company’s commitment to developing games for both the Xbox 360’s still-codenamed Project Natal and the PlayStation 3’s hopefully-still-codenamed PlayStation Motion Controller . “We have about ten games that will come for Natal during the first six months of the launch of Natal, and we expect between four to five games for the new controller from Sony,” Guillemot explained. “That’s the picture at the moment, it can change in the next twelve months.” (That “twelve months” reference doesn’t bode well for Sony’s purported “Spring 2010″ third-party launch lineup for the motion controller.) When asked if those games were all new properties, or motion-enhanced updates of existing franchises (like Prince of Persia ), Guillemot responded, “I didn’t count the games that in fact are supporting the new functions that those accessories will bring. I was more speaking about casual games that we are doing on those two machines; we can consider that on those games it’s 70 percent new property.” Or – if you consider Guillemot’s suggestion of ten games for Natal and “four to five” for PlayStation Motion Controller – that’s roughly ten new casual properties coming from Ubisoft.

Capcom puts Marvel vs Capcom 2 release near ‘the end of July’

by ApplyForAcardToday on Jun.27, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Further clarifying reports from nearly two months ago surrounding the release of Marvel vs Capcom 2 on XBLA/PSN, Capcom’s Twitter account is putting the game’s digital release “closer to the end of July.” Oddly enough, the statement claims to not know where the ” rumor ” came from, though Marvel Entertainment’s Q1 2009 financial report (sourced below) was clearly the culprit. In the month or so you have before the game releases, you should probably head over to Shoryuken ’s MvC2 forums to find out how badly you’re going to get stomped online. And yes, you will get stomped. We all will
