Interview: Zipper’s Alan Van Slyke on MAG’s past, present and future
by prarcillivirL on Feb.11, 2010, under Gadgets, Mac, Media, Video Games
The folks at Zipper Interactive have been in an unenviable position for the past eighteen months. Ever since the studio’s flagship PS3 title MAG was revealed during Sony’s E3 2008 press conference , the gaming populace’s collective expectation (or, alternatively, apprehension) for the title set an impossibly high bar for the developer to clear. We first spoke to the game’s producer, Alan Van Slyke, during PAX 2009, when he explained a bit of the techno-wizardry which powers the game’s internal servers. Yesterday, we got a chance to speak with Van Slyke once more — this time about the pressures associated with developing a game of this (forgive the pun) magnitude, whether the game’s rigorous beta testing paid off, and how one of MAG ’s three factions has evolved into an unstoppable victory machine .

Field & Stream: Total Outdoorsman Challenge coming to 360 in May
by SimkaOlssen on Jan.22, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
It can be hard being a a total outdoorsman every now and then — don’t we know it! Sometimes it snows, or there are vicious bears, or maybe we’re just feeling like snuggling up inside with a warm mug of hot cocoa instead of mercilessly hunting down animals for sport. Thankfully, development studio Beast understand our predicament and has announced a March release date for upcoming Xbox 360 hunting sim Field & Stream: Total Outdoorsman Challenge . Finally, a solution! At last, we can “brave the elements” of the wild without having to actually experience the raw elements that make us want to stay safely indoors. And considering that the closest we get to “the wild” is the local zoo, it’s good to know that the game will feature “more than 30 big game, native, and fowl species across multiple environments.” Heck, we can even polish up our lacking rifleman skills with F&S:TOC ’s free hunt and practice modes. How could we go wrong! What’s this about Cabela’s somethingorother , you say?

by kalaHeirl on Jan.20, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
There’s just one Team Fortress 2 class that’s scraping by without the support of post-launch additional content: The hard hatted, begoggled Engineer. It makes sense that Valve will get to the crafty class sooner or later — but many have wondered whether the developer will keep expanding on the title once the Engineer’s update goes live. Fortunately, a Community Fortress interview with Valve’s Robin Walker confirmed that new TF2 content would drop before and after the final class gets its new equipment.
