Overheard@GDC: The Cliff Bleszinski Pie Analogy

by litoimmully on Mar.13, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

[Flickr: Ephemeron ] “Save your fork, there’ll be pie. The game is the fork and the pie is the DLC.” -Cliff Bleszinski After confessing to having a big appetite for Borderlands , the Gears of War developer used the pie analogy to explain to Joystiq how games without any sort of DLC “hooks” are becoming increasingly rare.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light launching this summer for $15

by Hitoboattibra on Mar.10, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Click to enlarge It may not have “Tomb Raider” in the title, but Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light — scheduled to launch on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC this summer — will mark the leading lady’s return to a crumbling underworld and its unreasonably hostile caretakers. And while the game’s aesthetics are unmistakably consistent with previous games, its unique format draws inspiration from a wider range of sources, including last year’s polished XBLA hit, Shadow Complex . Like Shadow Complex , the game will launch for $15, offering approximately six hours of two-player co-operative action and puzzle-solving (though your pace may vary).

Capy porting Clash of Heroes to PSN and XBLA

by Agelogles on Mar.10, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

If, for some reason, you didn’t purchase and love Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes on DS — or even if you did — you’ll have the opportunity to buy the puzzle RPG on two new systems this year, in glorious hand-drawn HD. Capybara Games has revealed a new PSN/XBLA version of Clash of Heroes , with totally redrawn graphics that eschew the 16-bit look of the DS original for more realistic proportions and a generally sharper look. In addition, new equippable artifacts are being added, and the existing ones tweaked, to improve balance in multiplayer. Even better, you’ll now be able to go back and replay segments of the game after completing them.

by nonaraw on Feb.12, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Thanks to a hush-hush covert op , we’ve extracted a handful of new Splinter Cell: Conviction screenshots to whet your appetite. Oh, okay. They were just given to us during the X10 event in San Fransisco — but we can dream, can’t we? With Splinter Cell: Conviction ( finally ) hitting stores this April, these images only serve to anger us at the game’s numerous delays. Also, these images are so crisp, we’re not even sure they are real

X10: Welcome back to Albion, Fable 3 screens emerge

by Lofeappeash on Feb.12, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Microsoft has just sent off a handful of screens for the upcoming Lionhead adventure, Fable III . Featured in the images is a gruff-looking anti-hero, who has clearly lost more than a few followers from a slew of evil decisions. The pirate-hat wearing character isn’t all bad, though; one image shows the gun-toting maniac playing with his son. We presume, that is. Unless of course kidnapping is a brand new Fable III feature.

BAFTA people’s choice GOTY voting now open

by CheapAcopmlia on Feb.12, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Do you live in the UK and dream every night about the possibility of one day voting on a people’s choice game of the year award? Right, us neither, but if you’re into that kinda thing, UK retailer GAME is holding the second annual GAME British Academy Video Games Awards at the London Hilton on March 19 and you can vote for the awards show’s top “honour.” Sure, you can’t actually buy tickets and attend or anything crazy like that (the event is live-streamed online, in fairness), but you still have just over a month to put in your vote for one of the 10 games in the running — games that were chosen from a list comprising “the top selling games of the year sold in GAME stores.” At the very least, voters will automatically be entered into a contest to win a “Sony Home Entertainment Package,” so, if nothing else, there’s always the possibility of winning a Sony … something (or somethings ). Click through or glance a few inches up for the people’s choice award contestant list.
