Dead Rising 2 singleplayer hands-on: two chainsaws, one paddle, no mercy
by Pydaysnaw on Feb.11, 2010, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Filed under: Features , Microsoft Xbox 360 , Action “I came, I chainsaw, I conquered” — killer weapons in Dead Rising 2 Friends, I have seen the future and it is not so bleak after all. It is a world that Max Brooks and Sam Raimi have prepared me for, but neither could anticipate the sheer awesome power of the paddle saw: two chainsaws tied to both ends of a paddle. The goal of our Dead Rising 2 demo at X10 was simple: 20,000 pp in 10 minutes. My friends, I’ve failed you, but it was not for lack of trying and it certainly was not without its grandiose moments

EA tells NCAA Basketball games to hit the showers, ‘reviewing’ future of franchise
by Goploie on Feb.10, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
“We do not have an NCAA Basketball game in development at this time, and we’re currently reviewing the future of our NCAA Basketball business,” said EA Sports’ senior director of communications David Tinson in a recent Game Informer interview. “This was a difficult decision, but we remain a committed partner to the NCAA and its member institutions.” It’s an odd move, considering EA’s biggest rival, 2K Sports’ NCAA College Hoops series, hasn’t seen any new releases since its 2K8 installment, leaving the market wide open. Tinson confirmed that the team responsible for the series won’t be laid off, but rather assimilated into the NBA Jam and NBA Live teams at EA Canada, dashing our hopes that an EA-developed Harlem Globetrotters game could come from this. Get a taste of the future: Ghost Recon: Future Soldier teaser
by Abramov on Feb.09, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
The previously Xbox Live-exclusive Ghost Recon: Future Soldier trailer has found its way onto the YouTubes . As expected, it’s a lot of CG and absolutely no gameplay — with a final title screen promising release in “Fall 2010.” One item in the teaser, however, did manage to excite us: Invisibility. It looks like every future soldier gets one of those special Harry Potter blankets . Neat! Head past the break for the teaser.

3 minutes of Metro 2033 footage from the future
by sullyslimg on Jan.08, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Given that the entirety of Metro 2033 is set in a bleak, subway-based future — Moscow’s subway system of 2033, specifically — it’s not exactly an outright lie when we say the trailer is “from the future.” Sure, it might not have “traveled through time” or whatever your “fact-based” interpretation of our statement was, but it’s of a fictional post-apocalyptic world and that’s more than enough for us. Heck, there’s talk of the next evolution of human beings even. That’s about as futurey as you could possibly want, right?! by onlonno on Jan.08, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Following yesterday’s lowered profit forecast announcement from GameStop, the company’s stock took a 15 percent dive as of last night. According to GamesInudstry.biz , stocks opened yesterday “sharply down” due to the release of lowered profit expectations, but rose again before ending the day at $20.46. We might not know what the future holds for GameStop, but Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter returned from the future for just long enough to say he believes “industry sales will rebound in 2010 and that GameStop is well-positioned to gain share [over] the first half of the year.” It certainly doesn’t hurt the retailer that 2010 is chock full of delayed 2009 releases , we imagine

Activision UK head polls execs from ‘The Big Three’ on digital distribution, cloud gaming
by freelancerklip on Jan.05, 2010, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Video Games
[ Image credit: Vermin Inc ] If it weren’t for the fact that the recent “Andrew Brown asks” is a featured piece on UK-based MCV , the answers to his questions repeatedly starting with “Whilst” would have likely tipped us off to the Britishness of the feature and all involved. Both Sony’s Ray Maguire and Nintendo’s David Yarnton employ the subordinating conjunction whilst responding to questions about everything from the future of digital distribution to what the industry will look like in 2019. Though the Sony and Nintendo execs were a bit more reserved in their predictions, Microsoft’s Neil Thompson believes digital distribution will “explode in the next three years.” All three gentlemen admitted that retail will still play a major role for (at very least) a few more years. As for cloud computing, only Microsoft’s Thompson seems to be on board.

Vigil says no Darksiders DLC, multiplayer nixed ‘early on’
by Agokbomma on Jan.05, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
For a game based on, well, the end of everything , the fact that Darksiders won’t be receiving any DLC isn’t exactly a revelation. But it’s true — Vigil Games creative director and famed comic book illustrator behind the game’s visual style, Joe Madureira, confirmed in an interview with Eurogamer that DLC and multiplayer weren’t part of the developer’s plan, nor does it intend to tackle them post-launch. “We were a new team building new tech and a new IP. We had our work cut out for us,” Madureira explained when asked about both, adding, “Vigil has a very strong all-or-nothing mentality, and if we’re not confident we can pull it off, we’re not doing it. So we focused on making the most kick-ass single-player game possible.” Not to say that multiplayer was never a possibility — it was just a short-lived one: “We realized early on that we wouldn’t be able to pull off the scope of game we wanted to and have it be multiplayer,” he said

Valve beta testing AI opponents in Team Fortress 2
by EssekWaislalt on Dec.22, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
If there’s going to be a singular battlefield for the war between mankind and a super-advanced artificial intelligence hivemind, we think it’s going to be Team Fortress 2 . See, the programmers and developers over at Valve have repeatedly proven their technological prowess — and now that they’re working on AI opponents for TF2 , accidental self-awareness can’t be too far away. “Spy’s sappin’ my sentry! But why is it my sentry? Can a virtual sentry be owned

Ubisoft trademarks Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
by BestVideooa on Dec.19, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Software, Video Games
Since Ubisoft formally announced Ghost Recon 4 back in April, news on the game — or anything Ghost Recon -related, for that matter — has been pretty scant. If a trademark discovered by Superannuation recently is any indication of where the series is going, however, then it seems “the Ghosts” are going into the future . Just this week, Ubisoft trademarked “Ghost Recon: Future Soldier” with the usual “game software and electronic game programs” descriptor for video game trademarks. In fairness, the Ghost Recon games have always been set a bit into the future, with Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 taking place in the not-so-distant 2014. Will the French game publisher take the next step and bring the series into the somewhat-more-distant future
