Best of the Rest: Dave’s Picks of 2009
by KenangelS on Jan.01, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Resident Evil 5 I’ve long been a fan of the Resident Evil series, and while the campaign here has problems and should never be played solo, the Mercenaries mode is what kept me coming back. Those action-packed levels spent trying to survive while running low on ammo and health were some of my most chaotic, yet highly enjoyable, experiences of 2009. Rumor: 360 802.11n adapter spotted in GOW2 GOTY box
by SalvatoreStafford on Sep.18, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Retailers, Video Games
Image: MondoXbox.com To be more specific — and much less acronymic — it appears that the super speedy Xbox 360 802.11n Wi-Fi adapter has been spotted on a promotional flier inside the Italian version of the Gears of War 2 Game of the Year edition . Italian gaming site Mondobox.com ( translation ) posted an image of the leaflet, which you can see above. Assuming it’s authentic, it seems to indicate that both the original 802.11a/b/g and 802.11n adapter will continue to exist in the same market. And that, hopefully, indicates a price drop on the ridiculously overpriced original adapter

Hands-on: LocoRoco Midnight Carnival
by allerneillugh on Sep.18, 2009, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Video Games
The latest, download-only installment in PSP’s iconic LocoRoco franchise features many familiar structural and gameplay elements from the first two titles, yet still manages to remain exciting and fresh. LocoRoco Midnight Carnival distinguishes itself from the previous games in that it has a very strong focus on level mastery and overall degree of challenge – Sony told us it’s very much geared toward the “hardcore” LocoRoco player. GTA: Chinatown Wars losing nothing in PSP port
by astefothe on Sep.18, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Meeting with Rockstar yesterday for our first hands-on with the PSP “remastering” of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars , we kicked things off with a question that’s on everyone’s minds: What’s happening to the DS version’s touch-based minigames? The answer: They’re all still in the game, just adapted to a button-based format. We hotwired a car to try it out and were presented with a comic book panel-like inset that had us rotate the analog stick, time L and R button presses and rotate the stick again. According to Rockstar, similar mods have been made to all the minigames, but no minigames have been added exclusively for the PSP release.

Look at all that juice: Gears of War ‘Imulsion’ energy drink
by Foreaffelsoda on Sep.03, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Ignore the fact that Gears of War ’s “Imulsion” wasn’t meant for consumption and has mutagenic properties : some clever company is bottling the stuff and selling it as an “energy drink.” Not only that, but at $4 (a can?) — with $5 shipping — we’d better see a Pendulum War break out from the distribution and sale of this stuff. Oh well, if anybody does start mutating, we can always try to subdue it through the use of the Resident Evil T-Virus Energy Drink , which we’re almost positive was actually meant to suppress the zombie outbreak caused by Avon’s Derma-full face cream . We’re all doomed

Halo-themed Avatar clothing spotted in the wild
by bacikap on Jun.27, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Rants, Video Games
Select individuals have been seen sporting Halo -themed Avatar clothing recently, with fine young gentleman Randy No Arms being the latest spotted. It makes sense, considering the guy works for Microsoft , but are these new duds a part of the Avatar rewards beta , or is this the Avatar marketplace at work? Regardless, we’re totally jealous he’s sporting a slew of Halo- branded clothes, including a hat emblazoned with the UNSC symbol, a shirt with a pair of crossed energy swords, and a nice pair of khaki shorts with the Spartan helmet on the left leg.

SOE announces EverQuest: Underfoot and Everquest II: Sentinel’s Fate expansions
by oprazdnic on Jun.27, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Our sister site BigDownload has the scoop on a pair of new expansions for SOE’s popular Everquest franchise that were announced at this week’s Fan Faire in Las Vegas. First up is the 16th commercial expansion for 1999’s Everquest , Everquest: Underfoot . Due for release this November, the expansion brings with it a new underground zone to explore, with new creatures to battle, and even less reason to leave your house. Probably more relevant is Everquest II: Sentinel’s Fate , the sixth commercial expansion for Everquest II . Due for release in February 2010, Sentinel’s Fate will raise the level cap to 90, allowing you to spend ten more levels beefing up that Summoner of yours
