Interview: Microsoft on integrating Xbox Live into Windows Phone 7 Series

by InhictShihoom on Mar.10, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games, Windows, Zune, iPhone

Windows Phone 7 isn’t just Microsoft’s attempt to compete against Apple’s iPhone. It’s also the introduction of the first portable Xbox platform. During GDC today, we talked to Xbox Live GM Ron Pessner and XNA Game Studio manager Michael Klucher about how games integrate into the mobile platform and what gamers and developers can expect in the future. For the purpose of this interview, Pessner and Klucher merged into one entity (they spoke over each other a lot!) to answer our questions: Microsoft plans to separate games that do and don’t support Xbox Live functionality on Windows Phone.

iPhone Noby Noby Boy demonstrated by puppets

by misterchayniksa on Feb.15, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games, iPhone, iPod

Most publishers make dramatic trailers for their games, with carefully chosen game footage augmented by thrilling cinematics. Namco Bandai did not do that for the iPhone Noby Noby Boy game. Instead, creator Keita Takahashi put on a puppet show in a conference room. Using adorable handmade puppets, Takahashi provided the clearest look yet at the mobile version, including the stretchable Boy, several minigames and a camera app in which …

See Faith, See Faith Jump in Mirror’s Edge iPhone trailer

by OrarceZex on Dec.08, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games, iPhone

If you were wondering what the world of Mirror’s Edge would look like from a side-scrolling, out-of-body perspective, your answer can be found in the above trailer for the platformer’s iPhone port . Though the handheld obviously lacks the processing power of the 360 and PS3, the game still manages to retain the first installment’s crisp visual aesthetic. Also, there’s a lot of roof-jumping, which we remember being pretty prevalent in the home console version of the game. However, the video still doesn’t clarify how the original game’s fairly complex control scheme will port over to the iPhone

by BinyIgnitioge on Dec.08, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Game Informer ’s next issue is going to shed some eerie, bluish-greenish light on the just-announced Dead Space 2 , but they’re already showing off a new look for lead miner/Necromorph killer Isaac Clark. While we question the wisdom of worrying about fashion in the middle of Necromorph onslaught, we can’t argue it’s not a snappy look. While we’re thinking of it, is anybody else getting a total Guyver vibe from the new duds? No?

by unsursida on Nov.02, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games, iPhone

A Dutch auto insurance company called VrijVerzekerd recently thought outside the box of flatulence simulators and gem-swapping puzzle games to come up with a truly brilliant iPhone offering . Titled Endless Racing Game (clever!), the application allows two or more users to sync their iPhones up via Bluetooth, then watch as a car drives between their mobile devices as they generate a continuous racing course. If that explanation made little to no sense to you, check out the video demo after the jump.

It looks like Samsung is willing to pay as much as $250,000 to development teams or individuals for any mobile game pitches that eventually make it to the recently launched Samsung Application Store. According to Develop Online , Samsung has enlisted the help of mobile developer Handmark to help oversee the upcoming megaton of pitches, prototypes and products, as well as assist developers with production of their ideas for the platform. Having lost a sizable chunk of the mobile consumer base to Apple, and more specifically the iTunes App Store , Samsung is now reaching into its pockets to ensure the company’s slip in market share doesn’t turn into a complete mudslide.
