Nippon Ichi president resigning at the end of March
by Foreaffelsoda on Feb.21, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Software, Video Games
In a letter recently distributed (.pdf link) to the company’s investors, Nippon Ichi president Tomohiro Sato announced that he would be stepping down from his managerial post on March 31. Sato cites “personal reasons” as the force leading him to resign, though this news comes only two weeks on the heels of Nippon Ichi’s announcement of its 98 percent year-over-year revenue decline, and resulting JASDAQ freefall. Though we may not undoubtedly know what led to Sato’s departure, we’re really hoping this is just part of Nippon Ichi’s restructuring process, and that we’re one step closer to getting our hands on Absolute Hero Modding Project . Ever the pragmatists, we are. Nippon Ichi president resigning at the end of March originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 21 Feb 2010 11:30:00 EST

Molyneux: Fable 3 news at X10 will make you ’super pissed off’
by Agokbomma on Feb.07, 2010, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Speaking to Gamereactor , Lionhead maestro Peter Molyneux revealed that there will be some big Fable 3 news at the X10 event this week. “There’s some very, very big things happening in Fable ,” said Molyneux, “Bigger than you think, and it’s going to really upset people.” Molyneux added that he is “really scared” about telling people the news, saying, “They’re going to get super pissed off, they really are.” Still, he concluded that it’s “the right thing to do,” and confirmed that he will be demonstrating the mystery announcement at X10 in San Francisco. Joystiq’s theory: The entire story of Fable 2 was a dream sequence. Whatever it is, we’ll be delivering the news directly from X10, so Joystiq’s staff and readers can all get pissed off together.

Japanese hardware sales, Jan. 25 – Jan. 31: Super Prediction XLIV edition
by FatOrnarpKate on Feb.07, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
We were hoping to recreate our Super Bowl-themed post from last year , in which the winner of the Big Game was predicted by placing a very literal representative of each team’s moniker in a ring, and forcing them to duke it out . Sadly, we’re finding this year’s match-up a bit harder to emulate. We’re not sure whether any Saints are actually living among us — even if they were, we doubt they’d agree to participate in such a needless display of pugilism. Worse still, what would they fight

Like a mean cousin, Upper Deck steals Konami’s Yu-Gi-Oh! cards
by lolorama on Feb.04, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Konami announced yesterday that Upper Deck had been forced to settle with the company after allegedly printing hundreds of thousands of faked Yu-Gi-Oh! cards in China and bringing them stateside. On any other day, this news would just be kind of funny, but it’s elevated by attorney for Upper Deck Richard Howell who said “At this point, Upper Deck doesn’t have a lot of Life Points. We’re talking about behavior that, from a defense attorney’s standpoint, I can’t defend and I am not going to defend. I’m here defending a counterfeiter.

Project Natal focus on ‘brand-new experiences’ not ‘little Natal components’
by SimkaOlssen on Jan.09, 2010, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Video Games
With the news that Project Natal would offload the image processing to the Xbox console – as opposed to handling those duties in hardware on the device itself – and consume as much as 1 0 to 15 percent of the console’s overall “computing resources,” we became concerned that the potential for “supplemental” input in core games would be blunted. When asked what percentage of the Project Natal-enabled games in development would be Natal-exclusive as opposed to Natal-enhanced titles, Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg told Joystiq, “Our focus is on most if not all them will fall into that category of completely unique, brand-new experiences for Natal.” “We’re going to manage the portfolio very carefully and our focus is going to be on bringing completely brand new original experiences to the market when we launch Natal,” Greenberg said. “We’re not looking at just adding little Natal components to games, we’re looking at how do we actually bring an entirely new category of controller-free games and entertainment to the market so I think that’s where we will continue to focus.” But that doesn’t mean that other developers aren’t able to supplement their game’s input with Natal controls. After the release this holiday, “developers will have that out there at their fingertips if they want to enable those features,” Greenberg told us. “But I can’t speak to what that means from a game development standpoint.
