As if, in this world of economic hardship and international strife, you need another thing to worry about. iPhone developer Storm8 has been accused of stealing the phone numbers of players that downloaded its apps like Vampires Live and Zombies Live in a suit filed in San Francisco on behalf of Lynnwood, WA resident Michael Turner. The company acknowledged the number harvesting in August, calling it a “bug,” though the suit claims only specific code could have recorded and transmitted the numbers. So …

Dragon Quest IX is Q3’s top-selling game
by vagSkyday on Nov.05, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Despite the handicap of not being for sale in most of the world, Dragon Quest IX for the DS sold more copies than any other game in the world between July and September of this year, according to a Top Global Markets report . With 3,925,000 copies sold in Japan, it outsold the number two best-selling game for that period, Wii Sports Resort , by almost 1,000,000 copies — and that game was available worldwide. Following Wii Sports Resort in the top five: Madden NFL 2010 at 2,612,000, Pokemon HeartGold And SoulSilver at 2,068,000, and Halo 3: ODST , which was only out for a week in Q3, at 1,847,000 copies. All these games have plenty more sales ahead of them as the holidays approach! Dragon Quest IX is Q3’s top-selling game originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 05 Nov 2009 15:39:00 EST. If you hadn’t already registered for this week’s Penny Arcade Expo and were hoping to snag a pass at the door, you don’t want to read this tweet . We spoke with show organizers who assured us that they’d “love to let more people in,” but that the venue itself has reached capacity based on the number of passes sold

Crytek road map has next generation starting in 2012, next engine will be ready
by KeydayFreerty on Aug.17, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
A running theme through Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli ’s presentation at GDC Europe today was the number 2012 . Sure, he mentioned 2013 also, but the next Year of the Tiger showed up nearly a dozen-plus times in the executive’s presentation about “the future of gaming graphics.” Yerli tells Joystiq that the reason for the number is that it’s the company’s internal “road map” of when the next generation will begin.

You know how your birth was a miracle, because of the odds against a specific sperm fertilizing your mom’s egg? Now that there are 13,000 frigging games on the iPhone, how far are we from a comparable setup in the App Store? How long until the simple act of playing The Moron Test rather than other games is considered a miracle in and of itself

Nintendo’s ‘Demo Play’ planned for handheld games as well
by IgorVortoner on Jul.07, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
The controversial “Demo Play” feature devised by Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo won’t just be limited to New Super Mario Bros. Wii and other console-based adventures. A blurb in Japan’s Nikkei newspaper notes that the feature, which allows players to skip difficult areas and watch them played automatically, will also be used in portable games in the future. Nikkei referred to it as a “skip functionality” or “skip feature.” Nikkei notes that this feature is designed for ” high-speed action games,” so presumably you won’t be able to let Dr

Wolfenstein includes comprehensive Nazi death stat tracker
by Totsdyday on Jun.26, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Stat tracking is nothing new for FPS games, but we have to hand it to Raven for being thorough. According to MTV Multiplayer , the upcoming Wolfenstein keeps track of not only how many Nazis you kill, but the manner in which they died. Multiplayer asserts that it saw a stat screen at 36 percent completion, which noted that 639 kills had been made. Using some simple math, the blog calculated that a total of 1638.4 Nazis will meet their doom by the end of the game. Now, we hate to criticize, but that’s assuming the rate of Nazi influx is constant , which it almost assuredly is not.

Have 8 feet? Try the new DanceDanceRevolution
by Thalaamultamp on Jun.03, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
For dance fanatics that are just too good for four buttons comes DanceDanceRevolution for PS3 and Xbox 360. The newly revised game will take advantage of a brand new floor mat that has twice the number of buttons as the original. We’re not exactly sure how this mode will play, but we’re hoping it’ll be a little less confusing than playing the drums in Rock Revolution . The 360 and PS3 versions of DanceDanceRevolution will also include 50 licensed tracks from artists such as Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Coldplay, Gorillaz. 150 classic tracks will also be downloadable at launch
