VGA 2009: Rocksteady’s Paul Crocker talks Batman
by Valungec on Dec.17, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Reviews, Video Games
This past Saturday brought us the Spike TV Video Game Awards and – before experiencing the litany of world exclusives that awaited us inside – we spent some time outside cruising the red carpet and talking (briefly!) to many of the game developers and talent. We squeezed them for information as fast as we could while simultaneously wishing them holiday cheer and good tidings. Yes, it was as awkward as it sounds.

‘Star Wars Legends’ resurfaces on OFLC ratings database
by Abramov on Dec.09, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Software, Video Games
Speculation surrounding a new Star Wars game, which is set to be uncloaked at this weekend’s Spike Video Game Awards , has now grown to include a database entry from Australia’s Office of Film and Literature Classification. ” Star Wars Legends ” seems to have slipped by undetected when it was classified back in June of this year, though it’s unclear if the listing was withheld from public view until more recently. According to the online entry, Legends is being produced by LucasArts and published by Activision Blizzard. Star Wars Legends was first spotted in a trademark filing in July 2008, when LucasArts claimed the title for use as “computer game software” and “entertainment service provided online.” Also: Many tired Star Wars references died to bring you this information etc

Telltale teases new Sam and Max in 2010
by lumureriare on Dec.09, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
click to Maximize images Everyone’s favorite episodic adventure game series about anthropomorphic detectives (we assume!) is returning in 2010! Telltale Games just put up a teaser site for something Sam and Max -related happening in 2010, featuring concept art hidden within the Sam and Max constellations (which we’ve placed in our gallery for your convenience). The reference in the audio narration to “a power-mad space gorilla pitted against a canine detective and a sociopathic bunny with psychic powers,” along with the starry-sky imagery and (most definitively) the Max spaceship suggest that Sam and Max will be in space . Impressive — it took the Leprechaun movie series four installments to make it off the Earth. The narration also mentions that “This story will be different. You will be in control.” This could be a reference to a new control scheme Telltale planned to use in Season 3.

Rumor: New Borderlands DLC revealed by Trophy leak
by Anna brausik on Dec.09, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
As noted by PS3Trophies.org , it appears that more Borderlands DLC is imminent. The five recently added Trophies point to three coliseums, called The Angelic Ruins, The Gully and Hell-Burbia, all of which appear to have “lesser” and “larger” challenges. Eurogamer mentions that Borderlands Creative Director Mikey Neuman was all set to reveal something on Twitter, but it appears the marketing powers changed the announcement to a ” later occasion .” Publisher Take-Two seems happy with the success of Borderlands and critical reception to the game’s first DLC pack, The Zombie Island of Doctor Ned . Reaching out to 2K Games about the DLC, we were informed, “No official announcements have been made regarding future Borderlands DLC at this time.” [Via Eurogamer ] Rumor: New Borderlands DLC revealed by Trophy leak originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 09 Dec 2009 13:00:00 EST.

Report: UK government rejects gaming tax break proposal
by messalinaxe on Dec.09, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
[ Image credit: Bashed ] The Guardian reports that the British government will likely reject the Games Tax Relief proposal . According to the paper, the video game industry “contributes more to the UK economy than the film industry,” yet doesn’t receive the same assistance from the government. All of this is leading up to Tiga , the UK’s trade association for the video game industry, either owning the role of “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” or Cassandra of Greek mythology. The organization claims that 1,700 jobs will be lost without tax breaks and that competition from other countries, like the U S , France , and especially Canada , is too strong

We can’t be gaming all the time, despite our best efforts, and from time to time we’ll actually take advantage of the movie-playing abilities on our gaming systems. JBO features our top picks for XBL, PSN, Netflix’s Watch Instantly and Blu-ray each week. Recommendation of the Week: The Shield: The Complete Series (DVD [What, no Blu-ray?] $159.95, lower at many retailers) Vic Mackey isn’t the first hardass cop to come down the line and smack miscreants into place, but he’s definitely one of the most effective and most memorable. If you haven’t had the pleasure of watching Michael Chiklis in The Shield , then this has your name all over it. If you have …

by Sliniupsliano on Nov.02, 2009, under Gadgets, Mac, Media, Software, Video Games, iPhone, iPod
Adult Swim’s Five Minutes to Kill (Yourself) , a browser game about using the tools in your office to end your apparently miserable cubicle-bound life, can now be played on the go. Artificial Life, Inc. has ported the morbid action-puzzle game to iPhone and iPod Touch, which means that you can now kill yourself with one finger! * The iPhone game, like the original, gives you an office building full of potentially deadly office furniture and supplies, and five minutes to punish yourself until you actually expire through some combination of stapling yourself, smashing your head in copy machines, provoking co-workers, etc. The new version adds Wi-Fi and Bluetooth multiplayer, for death races . It’s available now in the App Store for $2.99
