Borg soon assimilating Star Trek Online in upcoming content update

by BeaxeklyGuaky on Feb.13, 2010, under Gadgets, Mac, Media, Video Games

A recently added hub page on the official Star Trek Online site has revealed that the nefarious Borg will soon make first contact with the MMO’s players in an upcoming free content update, which will be rolled out over the next two months. The patch will add a series of high-level episodes (that’s STO -speak for “quests”) to the game which will throw players into a number of ground and space conflicts with the cybernetic species, leading up to a climactic raid encounter with the Borg Queen. You can get an idea of the formidable foe you’ll be facing off against in the video above and the gallery below. As a special protip from us to you, here’s an instructional video which reminds prospective Borg-fighters exactly where the line must be drawn.

Use a sausage to play with your iPhone in the cold

by LebyfliefsNef on Feb.13, 2010, under Gadgets, Mac, Media, Video Games, iPhone

[ Bike Hugger ] Now the above headline invites all kind of mental imagery, we know, but we assure you this isn’t some kind of sexual euphemism. That hunk of Brat you’ve been carrying around in your pocket (again, not a euphemism) can do more than provide you with a tasty snack.

EA: Rock Band deal with Viacom only through March 2010

by Aseessinasas on Feb.08, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

If you’re wondering where Rock Band 3 is, a year and a half after Rock Band 2 and five months after the launch of The Beatles: Rock Band , it seems EA isn’t sure it’s going to get to publish it. During an investor conference call, EA execs revealed that the publisher’s deal with Viacom (the company that owns MTV, Harmonix, Rock Band and maybe you as well) is only active through fiscal year 2010 (which ends March 31). Presumably the deal somehow includes the yet-to-be-released Green Day: Rock Band — but EA’s unlikely to announce any more Rock Band games until it knows it has the license locked down for another year. Command and Conquer coming to ‘new medium’ in 2010

by ranipoojax on Dec.29, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

click to embiggen The above image could mean a lot of things: that life is fleeting, that every day brings a new challenge, or that maybe you should cancel those plans to visit the Palace of Westminster next year. But according to the official Command & Conquer 4 website, it only means one thing: the RTS series is coming to a brand new medium in 2010, “never created for the C&C franchise before, until now.” The image above is a sneak peek, the site says, but doesn’t give us anything more than that. Four color us crazy, but we look at the intricate chiaroscuro , inking, and shading above, and the words “comic book” jump to mind. But maybe that’s too obvious. We’ll be happy to follow C&C into whatever new medium it has planned, as long as it brings Tricia Helfer along.

Tekken movie poster teased on official Japanese site

by HelenMshines on Dec.23, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Film blog Twitch has spotted the teaser poster for the upcoming Tekken movie on the official Warner Bros. Japan site for the film. We don’t want to be overly cynical, but we’ve had our hearts broken so many times before that it’s hard to get excited for any video game-based films — no matter how spot-on Wushu martial artist Jon Foo looks as Tekken ’s Jin Kazama. You know what else we’re not fans of?

Nintendo trademarks Bii, Cii, Oii, Yii and Zii

by wepeedgerry on Dec.15, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

The internet is running rampant with speculation that Nintendo is working on a follow-up to its current home console, tentatively dubbed “Zii.” Siliconera discovered a Japanese trademark for the Zii, and many wondered if this was the official name for the fabled Wii HD. Conspiracy theorists will want to settle down, though. Our friends at Engadget discovered that the Zii trademark request is simply a renewal of a 2006 request
