Readers pick best webcomic: Lost Concept Art
by DrakeK on Feb.13, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
With a narrow four-vote margin, Of Noobs and Men’s ” Lost Concept Art ” managed to claim first prize in last week’s Webcomic Wrapup . Of course, we’re using the term “prize” pretty loosely. Unless you consider what we can only assume to be a marginal bump in web traffic to be a prize. In that case, prizes ahoy ! Second and third place went to Penny Arcade’s ” The Future Is No Escape ” and Extra Life’s ” Gun to a Knife Fight, ” respectively.

Both the DS and PSP versions of GTA Chinatown Wars have been well-received by gamers and critics alike, which inevitably spurred a release on the iPhone . And if you’re an iPhone fan who’s been looking to pick up the Apple platform port, now’s a good time: it’s on sale for 30 percent off this weekend only in the App store. That brings the game down to a very manageable $6.99, and you can download it for that price up until 12am ET Sunday night, at the conclusion of Valentine’s Day.

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is snowed in
by mrbarsasas on Feb.06, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Much like the rest of the nation, Weekly Webcomic Wrapup HQ is currently buried beneath roughly a half-mile of fresh snow. Despite our encasing, we’ve somehow managed to hold onto our internet connection. We know, that doesn’t make a lick of sense — we’re guessing that somewhere out in the arctic wilderness, a router is still powered on, fueled by an unseen, tenacious modem. We’ve used this inexplicable internet access to bring you our seven favorite webcomics, listed below. Check them out, and vote for your favorite after the jump! If we missed out on any good ones, leave a link in the comments! BioScrap (2P Start) Not Sold in Stores (Virtual Shackles) Lost Concept Art (Of Noobs and Men) The Future is No Escape (Penny Arcade) Block Party (Digital Unrest) Yolk (Brawl in the Family) Gun to a Knife Fight (Extra Life) Continue reading Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is snowed in Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is snowed in originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 06 Feb 2010 23:30:00 EST

Diablo 3’s female Monk designs revealed on The Jace Hall Show
by NurlJouff on Feb.06, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
In a recent segment on The Jace Hall Show , the typically secretive Blizzard dev team gave the towering host/television producer/Monolith founder a sneak peek at some of the concept art for the female iteration of Diablo 3 ’s Monk class. While she doesn’t embody what we normally imagine when we think of devout martial arts experts, she looks supremely badass. You can check out a few screengrabs from the clip on fan site BlizzPlanet , or simply watch the video posted after the jump (the segment starts at the 6:44 mark). Sega cites ‘tweaks’ and release position for Alpha Protocol delay [update]
by gigRowlclinge on Feb.06, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
It would have been nice to hear more of an explanation way back in October when Sega’s Alpha Protocol was ” officially delayed ” to the amorphous “Spring 2010,” but, unfortunately, that didn’t happen. Speaking with MTV Multiplayer this week, though, assistant producer at Sega Matthew Hickman explicitly detailed the reasons for the delay, saying, “We really wanted to polish the game up, make it everything Obsidian planned it to be, and give the consumer a very polished game.” He added that there’s been some “tweaks in lighting here and there,” and the inventory screen has been revamped a bit, but in general the team has been focused on “bringing the whole quality level up.” The post’s author also notes that the game is set for a “Summer 2010″ release window now, and we’ve reached out to him (and Sega) for clarification. Update: The post’s author has responded that, yes, the game’s current release window is set for “Summer 2010.” Guess that’s another delay then, eh? We’ll update again if Sega responds. Penny Arcade crew kicking off new book tour February 23
by FinalusTestarios on Feb.06, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Between the thrice-weekly comic , the quad-monthly PATV episodes and the bi-yearly conventions , we find ourselves pretty saturated in Penny Arcade’s artistic outings. Still, there are a few places in our lives where we could use some more of Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins’ irreverent brand of jest — like, for instance, our coffee table. That gap will soon be filled by the duo’s new book, The Splendid Magic of Penny Arcade: The 11½ Anniversary Edition — a tome which covers the history of the comic, the Penny Arcade Expo and the annual Child’s Play charity

Penny Arcade to be honored by Game Developers Choice Awards
by freklinotka on Jan.29, 2010, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Video Games
To the far, far outside observer, a comic strip which frequently features a tiny robot who commits sex crimes against citrus fruits wouldn’t seem like the most altruistic venture. We know the truth, however — that Penny Arcade’s Jerry Holkins, Mike Krahulik and Robert Khoo have been putting a generous , entertaining face on the gaming industry for over a decade. For this, the three men will soon receive a special honor during the Game Developers Choice Awards — the “Ambassador Award.” Man, that sounds prestigious as hell . According to a press release announcing Penny Arcade’s decoration, the award is given to folks who have “helped the game industry advance to a better place, either through facilitating a better game community from within, or by reaching outside the industry to be an advocate for video games and help further our art.” Yes, Penny Arcade has done both of those things, while still finding time to make hilarious comics about sentient juicers .
