Behemoth collects over 30k for Haiti relief, extends promotion again

by MichelleWatson on Jan.30, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Since January 20, the team at Behemoth have been raising money through Xbox Live DLC sales of Castle Crashers and Alien Hominid to support relief efforts in Haiti. Over four days, Behemoth has collected $15,585.65 through DLC purchases; however, since the promise was to donate 200% of all DLC sales, The Behemoth has matched the total leaving the donation jar filled with $31,171.29! That’s great, but for The Behemoth it isn’t great enough. Today the team announced they will continue to extend the promotion until the total donation jar hits $50,000. What a bunch of sweethearts

Jellyvision suing Aflac over ‘You Don’t Know Jack’ parody

by cecnesa on Jan.28, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Now, see, we were pretty certain that nobody was still working for Jellyvision — however, we wouldn’t be willing to risk a pricey copyright infringement suit over that assertion. According to the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer , Aflac recently drew the ire of the developer by designing a new web-based promotion titled You Don’t Know Quack . Jellyvision now seeks a court order to prevent Aflac from trademarking the title, as well as monetary damages. Hopefully, if the studio wins, they’ll spend said damages on developing a new You Don’t Know Jack , and not, you know, yachts .

Unlock Xbox contest down to eight finalists, voting begins for final three

by exceple on Dec.04, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Last year’s free Xbox Live Arcade game from the Unlock Xbox contest, Dash of Destruction , may not have been the best game we ever played, but it was certainly far from the worst. Also, it had that whole costing nothing thing going for it, so that helped our opinions considerably. This year, our chances of getting a fun game have doubled, with the contest’s 1,500 competitors vying for two spots rather than one. The final eight contestants have been culled from the initial submissions (listed after the break), and are now available to be voted on over at the contest’s website , ultimately determining three game ideas to be given final pitches at Microsoft.

Game controlling glove now available for pre-order and ‘The Wizard’ remakes

by Valengic on Dec.04, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

We know how hard it can be to expend precious energy on something as trivial as a keyboard – we spend all day doing exactly that! So it’s with proud, near-jubilant excitement that we bring you news of the gaming glove “Peregrine,” which allows for keyboard-free game playing, becoming available for pre-order . It’s not exactly equipped to handle twitch shooters: the Peregrine was made with MMOs in mind. Rather than push down all those pesky keyboard buttons, it allows for up to 40 different configurable movements instead. The $129 device (that’s if you pre-order — it’ll be $149 otherwise) runs on USB and will connect as a keyboard, so compatibility shouldn’t be too much of an issue. You can quit writing your Power Glove 2.0 fanfic right now – this ain’t it

Left 4 Dead, GTAIV, SFIV join Xbox Platinum Hits

by sweefechobe on Oct.05, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Retailers, Video Games

Microsoft has announced that several new titles will soon be joining the ranks of the Xbox 360’s budget priced Platinum Hits line. The new additions include some seriously heavy hitters, namely Grand Theft Auto IV , Street Fighter IV , Left 4 Dead , Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Saints Row 2 . Microsoft’s announcement (oh so conveniently) neglected to mention prices for any of the titles, but a quick check around the ol’ internet points to a price of $29.99 for most of the new additions (though SFIV curiously seems pegged around $40 for the moment). We should also point out that while these are some legitimately great games, both SFIV and Force Unleashed are receiving upgraded, budget versions in the near future — Ultimate Sith Edition later this year and Super Street Fighter IV in early 2010. It’s also worth noting Left 4 Dead is receiving a full-blown sequel only a month from now

Sony America scraps UMD-to-PSP Go conversion plans

by uugakom on Sep.25, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Rants, Video Games

Sony director of hardware marketing John Koller mentioned shortly after the E3 “reveal” of the PSP Go that the company was considering a “good will program,” which would allow UMD owners to trade in their physical games for digital versions. However, yesterday at the Tokyo Game Show, an SCEA spokesperson told Kotaku , “We were evaluating a UMD conversion program, but due to legal and technical reasons we will not be offering the program at this time.” That’s quite a blow to the base of American PSP owners with large libraries of UMD titles looking to upgrade to a PSP Go — a blow significantly worsened by the European “PSP Go Rewards” initiative, which grants three free games to PSP Go purchasers who register for the promotion using an older PSP model.

Euro Wii ‘Ambassadors’ to receive keys to the Virtual Console

by shapework on Sep.16, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Eager to show its disconnected patrons that their Wiis can do more than Wii Sports — you don’t even have to eject the disc! — Nintendo has appointed pretty much anyone in Europe savvy enough to visit Wii’s Connection Settings menu an “Ambassador.” Here’s how the “Connection Ambassador Promotion” works: Beginning in October (as seen in Japan ), if you help another Wii owner establish an online connection, you and your incompetent friend will both receive five Nintendo bucks (500 Wii Points). (Presumably, when connecting for the first time, there will be an option to credit an Ambassador.) And if you extend your services to the maximum of twenty previously offline console owners?
