Take-Two: Borderlands franchise ‘important’ and ‘long-term’

by NurlJouff on Dec.03, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

After being recognized as the year’s fastest-selling new IP and its developer calling a sequel a ” no-brainer ,” Borderlands is “showing every sign of becoming an important, long-term franchise” for publisher Take-Two Interactive. That comment was made today by company chairman Strauss Zelnick, during the same earnings call in which a considerable delay for another important franchise title, Max Payne 3 , was disclosed. But really, who cares about Max “I don’t need an intervention” Payne when faced with the prospect of Borderlands: The Clap Trap Chronicles ? Take-Two: Borderlands franchise ‘important’ and ‘long-term’ originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 03 Dec 2009 19:45:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds .

Readers pick best webcomic: The More Things Change

by DupeDactuch on Jul.25, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

We’ve given up on the prospect of ever being able to fly any of the planes featured in Battlefield 1943 . It’s a far-off, unachievable dream to us now — we’re more likely to become famous billionaire playboys than we are to become pilots in DICE’s multiplayer shooter.

Bayonetta jumps to January 2010, hits Japan October 29

by Totsdyday on Jul.17, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Following on the less fashionable (and deadly) heels of games such as BioShock 2 and Singularity , Sega’s Bayonetta and its bespectacled title character have slid — gracefully, we’d imagine — into 2010 for the US and Europe; January ‘10, to be precise. Sega West president and COO Mike Hayes has commented that, “As a result of market analysis we have taken a Publishing decision that January 2010 is the optimum release time in the Western Markets to maximize this exciting new title’s potential.” Surely this has nothing to do with the prospect of going up again the ” biggest entertainment launch of all time .” It was announced in April that Bayonetta would see a simultaneous worldwide release in the fall of this year. Now only Japan will be getting it before the year is out. It hits in developer Platinum Games’ home territory on October 29.

FIFA producer cautious on Natal, PS3 motion wand use

by bacikap on Jul.16, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

David Rutter, producer of FIFA for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, has put his foot down, literally. He’s not moving it. At least, he’s not moving it to play a 75-minute soccer match in his living room. When asked about the prospect of future FIFAs incorporating motion controls by utilizing Project Natal and Sony’s motion wand , Rutter told VideoGamer.com , “There are a few things we can do, definitely, but we’ve not really started on it yet.” Those few things do not include reinventing the franchise with unintuitive hand and body motions.

by ReplicaWatchesOpin on Jun.29, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Software, Video Games, iPhone

We already knew that recently bought by Bethesda company id Software are looking at a hefty lineup of upcoming iPhone games, but after speaking with company co-founder John Carmack this morning, we found out a little bit more about the potential for more classic reboots, like Doom Resurrection , in the future. “It really depends on how this one is received by consumers before we can make any plans, but I’m very interested in the prospect,” Carmack told Joystiq. Apparently, he’s most interested in seeing this treatment for Quake , though he also noted that Quake 3 Arena is still “possible” on Apple’s handheld. Why not Quake Live on Apple’s OS X, Mr. Carmack?
