EEDAR: No More Heroes 2 sold less than 30k in January

It’s sad to admit it, but we never expect any third-party “core” Wii game to sell well — regardless of its quality or the hype behind it. Lowered expectations mean that when such a title doesn’t absolutely tank , it’s great news! And the sales of No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle , as reported by EEDAR in its “Retail Sales Review for January,” fall somewhere in that “didn’t absolutely tank” area, especially since the game was on sale for less than a week in January.

Speaking to GI.biz , Valve’s head of Steam , Jason Holtman, had some interesting things to say about the company’s frequent deals and their effect on long-term game sales. According to Holtman, Steam’s quick game sales — offering Team Fortress 2 for $2.49 for only a few hours last month, for example — don’t have a negative impact on a game’s long-term performance. Holtman notes that once a brick-and-mortar retailer reduces a game’s price, people are reticent to ever pay a higher price again, but downloadable games are different

Microsoft is dropping several flavors of Windows Vista

Microsoft announced Thursday that it plans to lower the retail prices for several flavors of Windows Vista.
For those in the U.S., Microsoft is cutting prices only on the higher-end versions of Vista, and only for the upgrade version used to move from XP or another copy of Vista. The suggested price for Vista Ultimate drops to $219 from $299, while Home Premium falls to $129, from $159. (continue reading…)
