Sega finally shows Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown

by deexarrirty on Feb.19, 2010, under Gadgets, Mac, Media, Video Games

As the AOU 2010 expo gets underway at Tokyo’s Makuhari Messe (also home to the annual Tokyo Game Show), Sega is showing its latest coin-op iteration of Virtua Fighter , called Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown . (Or: Virtua Fighter 5 Probably Not Really the Final Showdown Because the Game is Still Super Popular — but we can understand why Sega went with the more pared-down title.) So far, only a highly stylized teaser trailer for the (for now) arcade-only title has been released, along with a page on the official Japanese Virtua Fighter site that mentions (via machine translation ) additional costumes, more character customization items and new moves. Of course, it’s been almost three years since the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the Lindbergh-powered quarter-muncher hit the US, so we’re not exactly holding out hope for this one popping up on store shelves in the States

Yakuza 3 pitched with pre-order DLC

by misterchayniksa on Feb.10, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

If you’re willing to commit to purchasing Yakuza 3 next month, despite the fact that your pre-order bill already includes God of War III and Final Fantasy XIII , you’ll be rewarded with extra content. In North America , a pre-order comes with four DLC bonuses, including a “Battle for Survival” boss-rush mode, two tournament modes and a “Haruka’s Request” set of missions. Pre-ordering from GameStop will add an additional Challenge Pack , containing alternate costumes and two-player pool, bowling, darts, and golf minigames. In Europe , the Challenge Pack is the lone pre-order bonus, as Yakuza 3 will be released in “Premium Edition” format, which includes the other DLC mentioned above, a 31-track soundtrack and a “Yakuza Who’s Who” guide to the characters — useful for distinguishing the good gangsters from the bad gangsters! Yakuza 3 pitched with pre-order DLC originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 10 Feb 2010 22:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds .

Iron Man 2 flying into stores on May 4 to ‘exclusive’ Lamb of God tune

by Boobnoizado on Feb.09, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

With a previous appearance in Rock Band as DLC, it’s no surprise that known face melters Lamb of God are apparently creating an original song for the upcoming Iron Man 2 game, now scheduled for release on May 4 (just three days before the film’s release). “The music of Lamb of God definitely evokes the intensity of Iron Man action,” explains Sean Ratcliffe, veep of marketing for Sega. Meanwhile, Lamb of God’s drummer Chris Adler says that some of the band’s members are “real game and comic fans,” making them all the more excited “to play the game and hear our music as Iron Man kicks a**.” Us, on the other hand? We’re going to take full advantage of the soundtrack swap function and rock out to some even edgier P.O.D. jams upon the game’s release.

The latest issue of Famitsu reveals (via IGN ) that two of the series’ classic characters are coming to Mercenaries Reunion in Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition : Barry Burton and Rebecca Chambers. Both characters made their first appearance in the original Resident Evil game, but haven’t exactly been strangers to the series ever since.

Swag Sunday: Bayonetta (360)

by Fragialirwela on Feb.07, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

Look, alright, we’ll level with you — we’ve got a short supply of schweet schwag hanging around Joystiq Prizeland as of late. That should at least partially help to explain last week’s absence of a contest. We also kind of felt like you might’ve been overloaded with games during our holiday giveaways at the end of 2009. What’s that?

Sega cites ‘tweaks’ and release position for Alpha Protocol delay [update]

by gigRowlclinge on Feb.06, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games

It would have been nice to hear more of an explanation way back in October when Sega’s Alpha Protocol was ” officially delayed ” to the amorphous “Spring 2010,” but, unfortunately, that didn’t happen. Speaking with MTV Multiplayer this week, though, assistant producer at Sega Matthew Hickman explicitly detailed the reasons for the delay, saying, “We really wanted to polish the game up, make it everything Obsidian planned it to be, and give the consumer a very polished game.” He added that there’s been some “tweaks in lighting here and there,” and the inventory screen has been revamped a bit, but in general the team has been focused on “bringing the whole quality level up.” The post’s author also notes that the game is set for a “Summer 2010″ release window now, and we’ve reached out to him (and Sega) for clarification. Update: The post’s author has responded that, yes, the game’s current release window is set for “Summer 2010.” Guess that’s another delay then, eh? We’ll update again if Sega responds. Virtua Fighter, NiGHTS characters in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing

by carballoslim on Feb.02, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, On the Web, Video Games

Apparently, Sega’s plan is to represent every Sega franchise ever in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing — except, of course, for Segata Sanshiro . The publisher announced two more playable characters today (well, four , actually, in pairs): Virtua Fighter’ s Akira and Jacky, and Bonanza Bros. ‘ Mobo and Robo. The Virtua guys appear to be riding in a red Ferrari, which would add the OutRun franchise to the list as well. All these reveals are in line with the character portraits found hidden on the website
