Report: Silent Hunter 5 recalled in Germany
by quattakealert on Mar.12, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Software, Video Games
Ubisoft has issued a recall for Collectors Edition copies of the submarine sim Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic , According to a report from the German site ComputerBase . Apparently, some offending World War II-related symbols (we’re guessing swastikas) were left in some of the bonus content, which violates German law . This only affects the Collectors Edition. The ComputerBase post briefly mentions the Ubisoft DRM that has been so problematic for players of Assassin’s Creed 2 and this game, confirming that the same scheme is in use there.

Nippon Ichi president resigning at the end of March
by Foreaffelsoda on Feb.21, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Software, Video Games
In a letter recently distributed (.pdf link) to the company’s investors, Nippon Ichi president Tomohiro Sato announced that he would be stepping down from his managerial post on March 31. Sato cites “personal reasons” as the force leading him to resign, though this news comes only two weeks on the heels of Nippon Ichi’s announcement of its 98 percent year-over-year revenue decline, and resulting JASDAQ freefall. Though we may not undoubtedly know what led to Sato’s departure, we’re really hoping this is just part of Nippon Ichi’s restructuring process, and that we’re one step closer to getting our hands on Absolute Hero Modding Project . Ever the pragmatists, we are. Nippon Ichi president resigning at the end of March originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 21 Feb 2010 11:30:00 EST

BioShock 2 debuts atop UK charts, drowns out Just Dance
by foosseUndiste on Feb.15, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Software, Video Games
Mass Effect 2 ’s reign in the UK has come to an end, with a return trip to Rapture replacing BioWare’s journey across the stars in first place. The latest Chart-Track data shows that Bioshock 2 is now the Big Daddy on the block, besting the hypnotic gyrations of Just Dance , Ubisoft’s successful bust-a-mover. With that in second place, FIFA 10 slid into third. Bioshock 2 , which bested Mass Effect 2 ’s UK debut numbers, is the first Take-Two title to be in the top spot since 2008, when GTA IV managed to jack its way into first place. Ellis : So, this one time, me and my buddy, Keith, we saw these infected Valentine cards on the internet. And Keith was like, “Hey, we could make some money selling those.” So he got out his little sister’s box of crayons and made a couple. Then, I was like, “Keith, we ain’t gonna make no money selling five cards.” So he spent a whole year drawing, like, a thousand cards or something. Then we saw new versions of those cards, like, to download the next year and … Rochelle: Ellis, sweetie.

Mass Effect 2 remains atop UK charts, Dante debuts
by NourorofSkirm on Feb.08, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Software, Video Games
Mass Effect 2 has maintained the top spot on Chart-Track ’s UK all-formats sales chart for a second week in a row. However, there seems to be some kind of Batarian flu loose on the isles, because Mass Effect 2 sales, which dropped by 64 percent this week, were “within touching distance” (850 units, to be exact) of Wii’s Just Dance. Rounding out the unchanged top three for a second week was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

by Lobawaigo on Feb.08, 2010, under Gadgets, How To, Media, Video Games
No, you won’t learn who the stars of karate are by playing THQ ’s All-Star Karate . Rather than a licensed game featuring the biggest names in martial arts, All-Star Karate is a fighting game in the same casual Wii series as All-Star Cheer Squad . And though the final product may not turn out to be to everyone’s tastes, there’s something about a casual-oriented fighting game that sounds fascinating

Facebook nabbing its first FPS: Brave Arms
by amateurgrlww on Feb.06, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Networking, Software, Video Games
Our biggest gripe with Facebook “games” most times is the lack of actual gameplay involved in them. Things like Mafia Wars seem much more like stat management spreadsheets couched in a social networking medium rather than games with a social media component. That said, it seems that 3G Studios is bringing a full on 3D shooter to the website in Brave Arms , announced this week and set for a March launch
