Al Lowe reveals the ‘real’ Leisure Suit Larry 8 plot
by SilvesterHoward on Mar.11, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
[ Hardcore Gaming 101 ] You may not remember this, but in the days before Magna Cum Laude , Leisure Suit Larry games were adventure games. And funny. Series creator Al Lowe has revealed what would have been the plot for Leisure Suit Larry 8: Lust in Space , had upheaval at Sierra not prevented it from ever happening. Essentially, Larry is captured by “amazonian warrior women” from a distant planet. They brainwash the perennially behind-the-times loser into believing he’s in a disco paradise.

EA’s Schappert shares five money-making tips
by JustaLittleTest on Feb.19, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
EA Chief Operating Officer John Schappert dropped five tips for making money in the industry over the next three years on the D.I.C.E. audience today. Before getting to those, though, Schappert acknowledged that EA didn’t give Dead Space or Mirror’s Edge the marketing support those titles deserved. He confessed, “We could have done better and these titles deserved more.” He referenced the Dante’s Inferno Superbowl ad and the marketing deluge for Mass Effect 2 as examples of the kind of marketing the publisher should be doing for more of its games. As for Schapper’s tips: Commit yourself to quality

EA hosts Battlefield: Bad Company 2 celebrity benefit tournament
by Jorkeurorie on Feb.19, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
As reported on these very pages yesterday , EA and DICE got a group of semi-celebrities together last night to celebrate the impending arrival of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 with a charity tournament, pitting NFL stars and 90210 actors against each other in a bragging rights team match. The celebs also selected their own team names for an upcoming Major League Gaming tournament, and the winning team in that match (which you can predict right now on GameStop’s website ) will end up giving $25,000 to the winning celebrity’s charity of choice. The event kicked off with a red carpet event, and Matt Lanter and Tristan Wilds of the new 90210 joined gossip blogger Perez Hilton to talk about crushes on their costars and how awesome Bad Company 2 was. Meanwhile, we wondered, where’s the actual game? Report: Dead Space 2 PC no longer in EA’s plans
by Jordanhoper on Feb.09, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
A great deal of news came out of EA’s Q3 earnings report yesterday; enough to make us overlook this item: The early 2011 listing for Dead Space 2 didn’t reference a PC version of he title, as was previously announced. Blue’s News reportedly contacted Electronic Arts about the absence of the listing, and was told by a representative that “as of right now a PC sku is not in the plan.” That doesn’t mean a PC version of the game is never coming out — after all, the game’s release window is still a year away. We’ve contacted EA to see exactly what “the plan” entails.

Darksiders, Saint’s Row sequels from THQ in fiscal 2012
by Brondanao on Feb.03, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
THQ’s Brian Farrell has revealed on today’s investor conference call that the company is planning to revisit some of its most successful franchises as far away as the fiscal year of 2012 (which would be sometime after March 2011), including this year’s bestseller Darksiders , and the popular Saint’s Row franchise. Farrell says the company is looking to fiscal 2012 for “accelerated growth with three major core game titles scheduled: Warhammer 40k Space Marine , a sequel to Darksiders and the third generation of our popular Saint’s Row franchise.” Given that these are more than a year away, we don’t have any more information besides the fact that they’re planned for release (Who will Darksiders ape next?

Visceral begins shift from Dante’s Inferno to Dead Space 2
by Lofeappeash on Feb.03, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
A week from the launch of Dante’s Inferno, no one would expect Visceral Games’ Nick Earl to reveal any uncertainty about sales, but Industry Gamers did attempt to elicit a reaction from the senior VP — by reminding Earl that his studio’s new game will share a release date with BioShock 2 (never mind that it’s surrounded on either month by other big-name releases). “In life, there’s the things you can control and things you can’t control,” Earl said somewhat poetically. “I can’t be too concerned with our competitive slate; our team has put so much time into Dante’s Inferno , and I have a lot of faith in it.” Perhaps “faith” is a natural result of working with the source material , but more likely Earl can sleep at night because he knows he has the support of a strong marketing budget. As a work of public domain, Dante’s Inferno is that rare double-bonus for EA: a recognizable property and free to adapt — no strings attached.
