At a pirate-themed party in San Francisco tonight (with special guests Ron Gilbert and Tim Schafer!) LucasArts announced The Secret of Monkey Island 2: Special Edition , coming “this summer” on Xbox Live Arcade, PSN, PC, iPhone and iPod Touch. This isn’t simply the same “special edition” treatment applied to last year’s edition; instead, fans can expect a new control mechanism.

The BioShock 2 special edition includes the game’s score not just on physical media, but on an impressive vinyl record . However, if you want to hear the BioShock 2 soundtrack but don’t want to be saddled with any tiresome tangible items, there’s an option for you too. GameTunes reports that the soundtrack, composed by Garry Schyman, will be released digitally through both the iTunes Music Store and Amazon’s MP3 store. No price or release date have been mentioned yet.

A BBFC classification for a “Game of the Year” edition of Batman: Arkham Asylum has popped up online, causing quite a stir here at Joystiq HQ. While we all agree that Batman was ” a game of the year ,” the listing offers no clues as to what would be included in a GOTY package. So, allow us to activate detective mode: First, there are the two DLC packs for the game to consider: the “Insane Night” Map Pack (free for everyone) and “Prey In The Darkness,” available on PS3 in the US and on both PS3 and Xbox 360 in Europe

Quantic Dream’s Heavy Rain just got heavier, both in content and in physical package size . Sony has detailed the first of the DLC releases that we confirmed earlier this week, called Heavy Rain Chronicles . The first DLC episode is an expanded version of the “bonus” taxidermist scene shown in 2008 and will be available “after the launch of Heavy Rain early next year” for an unannounced price
