iPhone It In: Call of Duty: Zombies
by CasseUnaceCak on Feb.17, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games, iPhone
I’m a big proponent of games you can play with single taps on the iPhone and, as such, I was pretty skeptical about how well Call of Duty: World at War ‘ s zombie mode would make the leap to the diminutive platform. Though I’ve played FPS games that technically worked on iPhone, they’re very rarely something I find myself returning to. Call of Duty: Zombies cleverly skirts the issue by providing so much help with aiming, you’re able to focus on what makes the mode so much fun on consoles

Aksys resurrects ‘River City’ name for DS sports games
by sixFloows on Feb.17, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
The latest announcement from Aksys games includes two surprises. It doesn’t come as a shock that the company would choose to localize Kunio-kun no Chou Nekketsu Daiundokai (Kunio’s Extreme Hot-Blooded Athletic Meet) for DS — Aksys is fairly reliable about picking up everything Arc System Works releases in Japan, and it published the last new Kunio game for DS, Super Dodgeball Brawlers , in 2008. However, in addition to the multi-sporting event game (a sort of sequel to the NES game Crash ‘n the Boys: Street Challenge), it also announced a new Kunio soccer game that hasn’t even been announced in Japan

Guitar Hero, Call of Duty franchises lead Activision’s ‘better-than-expected’ Q3 2009
by errosyhoorate on Nov.05, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Look, just feign surprise, it makes these financial posts so much more exciting: Activision today reported net revenues of $755 million (on a non-GAAP basis) in the quarter ending September 30, 2009 — that’s $55 million more than the suits hoped to stack, according to previous projections. While the blockbuster adaptation of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen might have played a part in this outpouring of our money, we’re gonna go with Kotick’s explanation: “Our performance was driven by positive audience response to Activision Publishing’s Guitar Hero 5, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2, and the Guitar Hero and Call of Duty franchises, as well as Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft .” In fact, the CEO called Guitar Hero the year’s “#1 best-selling third-party franchise in North America and Europe” through September, claiming that U.S. sales of music games increased 72 percent year over year in September. Last year’s big-band-box edition, World Tour, and Call of Duty: World at War combined for total, world domination, becoming this year’s “#1 and #2 best-selling third-party titles” in North America and Europe through September, according to Activision. Additionally, World at War DLC map pack sales continued to climb last quarter and have now surpassed 7.5 million purchases.

Interview: Modern Warfare 2’s Vince Zampella
by ReplicaWatchesOpin on Sep.16, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Inifinity Ward studio head Vince Zambella was exhausted, but in a good mood, by the time we caught up with him at a Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer event last night. Zambella’s been working on one of the most anticipated sequels ever, after all. (GameStop has its fingers crossed for a slice of what could be the “bestselling title of all time.”) After the break, Zambella shares his feelings about straddling two brands, Call of Duty and Modern Warfare ; the Wii port of the original Modern Warfare; and World at War’s Zombie Mode

Third CoD: World at War map pack enlists one million on first weekend
by arbitakap on Aug.21, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games
In a very unsurprising turn of events, Activision has announced that the third downloadable map pack for Call of Duty: World at War was downloaded over one million times during its first weekend of availability (August 6 – 9). That figure is derived from both Xbox 360 and PS3 downloads. The console war doesn’t impede the progress of real war! Real war in the … game, we guess.
