by Stephan Wein on Jan.15, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Storage, Video Games
While newPCgadgets.com has chosen to product seen above the name “Xbox 360 Security Locker,” you could conceivably store just about any gaming paraphernalia you might happen to have lying around. This point is actually driven home by the product image itself, which clearly shows several PlayStation 2 games being stored in the locker.

Greenberg: ‘millions of Natals in consumer’s homes this holiday’
by tomkabrick on Jan.09, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Software, Storage, Video Games
Discussing specifics of the company’s forthcoming Project Natal , Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg told Joystiq, “We think that there will be millions of Natals in consumer’s homes this holiday.” To put that number into context, Microsoft sold 2.3m Xbox 360 consoles and Nintendo sold 1.7m copies of Wii Fit with bundled Balance Board in the US during the months of November and December, 2008. “Millions” of Natal units in a single holiday season is certainly an ambitious goal and one usually out of reach of most video game peripherals; however, Project Natal will be released with more than a year of hype behind it, not unlike the highly anticipated Wii Fit .

PSN survey hints at upcoming subscription-based features
by AbramovIvan on Jan.06, 2010, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Storage, Video Games
Sony ’s European team has sent out a survey to some of its UK PSN members asking them yet again about possible subscription models for the service. The survey is run by a market research company called Ipsos , and appears to offer up a list of possible member benefits for a few different plan tiers, along with pricing for each. The benefits range from more tame ideas like exclusive and early access to content to more interesting options like “free title trials” (first hour of a game for free), user-to-user challenges, “token wagering” and a service called “catch-up TV.” Oh, and since it’s Sony we’re talking about, there’s even a listed option for ” cloud storage space for games .” You can find the full list of possible features after the jump. The price options differ from plan to plan, but they go as cheap as

Sony has filed a trademark notice here in the US for the word “Cloudsurf,” and the trademark relates to a number of different products and services, including everything from audio players to game consoles to video cameras, as well as online distribution of games, music and television. In other words, it could be for anything that Sony has made or sold, ever.

Rumor: Survey hints at premium PSN subscriptions
by FatOrnarpKate on Dec.18, 2009, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Storage, Video Games
Kotaku reports that a survey from IPSOS Online Research has been sent out, gauging interest ( again ) in premium subscriptions to PSN. One of PSN’s most-touted features has been its low price of free , so if Sony’s thinking about asking for membership fees, it had better offer some extra goods, right? Well, the survey hints at such goodies as hour-long trials for full PS3 titles, access to PSOne Classics and cross-game voice chat; the latter being a feature that PS3 gamers have been waiting on for decades but, if this survey is to be believed, would be exclusive to premium members. The survey also discusses the addition of Cloud Storage — online space that allows users to store saved data, instead of housing it on their hard drive — and Tokens. These Tokens would be a kind of added currency, which can then be used to redeem goods on PSN

The PS3 Slim ‘could have been made even smaller’
by myfloverty on Dec.15, 2009, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Storage, Video Games
We think the redesigned PS3 is small enough. However, Sony’s Japanese designers, in their continuing desire to shrink things, noted that the PS3 Slim “could have been made even smaller.” Sony’s executive VP of technology Masayuki Chatani spoke with Japanese newspaper Nikkei about the challenges of designing a slimmer PS3. The goal was not only to cut costs , but to expand its attractiveness to “an even wider range of users.” Considering the Japanese penchant for small electronics, the original PS3’s girth was certainly a limiting factor. However, certain sacrifices would have been necessary for Sony to pursue an even smaller box

Brazilian senator hopes to ban sale of violent games
by cindyslimg on Dec.05, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Storage, Video Games
[ Rondonia Digital ] Though Brazil is no stranger to banning video games , a recently proposed bill from Senator Valdir Raupp certainly seems pretty drastic. Raupp’s bill, which was recently passed by the Education Commission of the Senate, and will now go to vote in the Committee on Constitution and Justice, seeks to “curb the manufacture, distribution, importation, distribution, trading and custody, storage [of] the video games that affect the customs [and] traditions of the people, their worship, creeds, religions and symbols.” According to Brazilian news site UOL , if the bill passes, folks caught violating the law could be subject to one to three years imprisonment. That’s quite a bit of jail time to serve for just importing a copy of Grand Theft Auto IV , dont’cha think
