Interview: Microsoft on integrating Xbox Live into Windows Phone 7 Series
by InhictShihoom on Mar.10, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games, Windows, Zune, iPhone
Windows Phone 7 isn’t just Microsoft’s attempt to compete against Apple’s iPhone. It’s also the introduction of the first portable Xbox platform. During GDC today, we talked to Xbox Live GM Ron Pessner and XNA Game Studio manager Michael Klucher about how games integrate into the mobile platform and what gamers and developers can expect in the future. For the purpose of this interview, Pessner and Klucher merged into one entity (they spoke over each other a lot!) to answer our questions: Microsoft plans to separate games that do and don’t support Xbox Live functionality on Windows Phone.

Windows Phone 7 announced, includes Xbox Live support
by ReplicaWatchesOpin on Feb.15, 2010, under Gadgets, Media, Video Games, Windows, Zune
Well gang, it’s been a long time coming, but it seems we’re finally going to get the Live Anywhere integration Microsoft began teasing four whole years ago. We’re finding it awfully difficult to be jaded, however, as the mobile counterpart to Xbox Live will make its debut on the recently announced Windows Phone 7 — a sleek little device which we’re periodically switching between browser tabs to ogle. Click past the jump to see a demo of the phone’s capabilities. According to a Microsoft press release , the Xbox Live integration on Windows’ new mobile platform “delivers the first and only official Xbox LIVE experience on a phone, including Xbox LIVE games, Spotlight feed and the ability to see a gamer’s avatar, Achievements and gamer profile.” We’ve contacted Microsoft to find out exactly what types of games are going to be offered on the device.

JBO: Joystiq Box Office, February 8 – February 12
by Fusorabsorapy on Feb.12, 2010, under Blu-Ray, Features, Gadgets, Media, Video Games, Zune
We can’t be gaming all the time, despite our best efforts, and from time to time we’ll actually take advantage of the movie-playing abilities on our gaming systems. JBO features our top picks for XBL, PSN, Netflix’s Watch Instantly and Blu-ray each week. Recommendation of the Week: District 13: Ultimatum (800 ($10) HD, 480 ($6) SD, to rent) It’s Mirror’s Edge , the movie! Well, sort of. There’s a hell of a lot of Parkour in both, but District 13: Ultimatum has much more plot, explosions and general ass-kickery. Written and produced by Luc Besson, D13:U is set several years after the original District 13 (and no, you don’t have to have seen that to enjoy this one), and takes place within the same walled-off Parisian ghetto.

NIS America to enter US anime market with Persona: Trinity Soul
by unsareruime on Feb.12, 2010, under Blu-Ray, Gadgets, Media, Retailers, Video Games, Zune
NIS America isn’t all about making niche video games. No, they’re going to be making niche anime DVDs as well. Beginning mid-2010, NIS America will roll out their new anime line, beginning with these four titles: Toradora! , Persona: Trinity Soul , PandoraHearts , and Our Home’s Fox Deity . Jack Niida confirmed that these titles will be available exclusively on DVD at first, although didn’t rule out the possibility of Blu-ray, PlayStation Network and Zune Marketplace releases in the future. These series will receive a limited print, and will be available through online specialty retailers — brick and mortar stores, like Best Buy and Walmart, will not carry these titles
