by Attipspougs on Feb.08, 2010, under DTV, Gadgets, Media, Video Games

This time, the oft fake-tattooed gentleman exposited on the future of OnLive and his company’s investment in the upcoming PlayStation Motion Controller (supposedly named ” Arc “). “I don’t know about OnLive,” Moore told CVG , responding to the question of whether or not the cloud gaming service will become the “iTunes of gaming.” He does, however, see opportunity in burgeoning distribution and pricing methods

BioWare: No fix for Mass Effect 2 SDTV ‘tiny text’ issue
by freelancerklip on Feb.05, 2010, under DTV, Gadgets, Media, Video Games
[ ChrisJohnBeckett ] BioWare has stated that it can do nothing to alleviate Mass Effect 2’s “tiny text” issue, which affects standard-definition television users. The company claims on its forums that after “investigating potential solutions,” it has determined that it is unable to fix the text size with a patch. BioWare has taken note of the complaint, however, and will take it into consideration for “future games in the Mass Effect franchise.” Um, how about all future BioWare games?

Moore: EA Sports has no plans for 3DTV now, focusing on Natal, Motion Controller
by Amarikans Psihhlos on Jan.29, 2010, under DTV, Gadgets, Media, Video Games
At an event in the UK this week, EA Sports head honcho Peter Moore outright refutes any possibility of his division at EA developing sports games with 3D technology in mind. In speaking with GamesIndustry.biz , the affable exec states, “Believe me, there’s nothing going on right now that would say I’m ready to demo a 3D sports game.” That said, on the subject of Project Natal and the Sony Motion Controller , Moore opened up to many more possibilities. “We’re getting in sync with Sony’s motion controller and Project Natal with what Sony and Microsoft want to do with their publishing partners, so stay tuned for further information on that as we get closer to the date.” When pressed for dates on either project, though, he remained cagey, saying “I do not know when they’re launching …

TimeGate sues SouthPeak for alleged breaches in publishing agreement
by Deniparfos on Dec.23, 2009, under DTV, Gadgets, Media, Podcast, Video Games
Chalk up another frustrated party accusing SouthPeak of wrongdoing. The company has been sued by Section 8 developer TimeGate, which alleges that the publisher has withheld royalty payments and entered into a PS3 licensing deal on the game with Russian company IC, an arrangement that TimeGate claims SouthPeak had no right to make. In legal documents obtained by Joystiq, TimeGate also alleges that this SouthPeak T-shirt promotion was unauthorized, that the publisher had mislead TimeGate about sales figures and that the publisher has stated it should not have to adhere to TimeGate’s original agreement, as it had been made with Gamecock, which SouthPeak purchased in late 2008. We’ve reached out to SouthPeak for comment. If you prefer your language far more formal, the lawsuit puts it like this: “[SouthPeak] failed to provide a sufficient sales report, withheld royalty payments and did not adhere to the obligation to act in good faith and fair dealing when they established the sham transaction in order to deprive TimeGate of royalties despite the special relationship between the parties and being in a position of trust.” No specific amount is mentioned in the suit, with TimeGate asking only for “compensatory damages in an amount to be determined” following an independent audit of Section 8 ’s sales

Ubisoft envisions a future of 3-D movies, games
by prarcillivirL on Dec.01, 2009, under DTV, Gadgets, Media, Video Games
Older readers out there might think that the 3D gaming revolution began with the advent of consoles like the PlayStation, N64 and the Sega Saturn, but the real 3D gaming revolution is just beginning, according to Ubisoft. 3D gaming doesn’t refer to three dimensional graphics anymore; nowadays it means that the game jumps out of the screen and into your eye holes. Beginning with the game adaptation of James Cameron’s Avatar , Ubisoft Montreal’s Yannis Mallat tells the Financial Post that he sees the company becoming a “360-degree entertainment content provider.” As the wording suggests, Ubisoft’s future won’t necessarily be restricted to games. Mallat hopes that future game consoles will be able to render photorealistic graphics, enabling Ubisoft to create games and films using the same assets — similar to what the company did with the Assassin’s Creed: Lineage short films
