by WronoPoetsseK on Jun.30, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Rumors, Video Games
Another possibly ” frustrating ” leak for Sony, word comes from our buddies at Joystiq Japan and Engadget Chinese that two Taiwanese manufacturing companies have been awarded contracts to build Sony’s new streamlined PS3, affectionately known as the PS3 Slim . According to UDN.com , half of the orders have gone to Taiwanese group Foxconn, while the other half has gone to Pegatron.

Epic Games Korea opens to work closely with local devs
by Totsdyday on Jun.29, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Rumors, Video Games
Epic Games has opened a new subsidiary in Seoul, Korea, with plans to provide licensing services and support resources to development teams using its Unreal Engine. Epic Games Korea will be led by Ray Park, formerly the business and strategy development manager for Microsoft’s in-game advertising company, Massive, Inc . While Epic Games has provided its Unreal Engine to teams in the territory for over five years, Park states the opening of a Korean subsidiary signifies Epic’s “desire to collaborate more closely with the [local] game development community.” Jay Wilbur, Epic Games’ vice president of business development, noted Epic Games Korea would serve as “a hub for Unreal Engine access, knowledge and support in the Korean marketplace.” Rumors of developer Silicon Knights moving to Korea in search of the support it claims to have never received from Epic Games could not be confirmed … because we made it up for the sake of a bad joke. Obsidian confirms the cancellation of Aliens RPG
by eldetlems on Jun.27, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Rumors, Video Games
Finally, Aliens RPG ’s will it , won’t it dance has come to an official, if disappointing, end. We were hoping the many, many rumors of its cancellation would be for naught, but a moderator at the Obsidian forums has confirmed that the project is dead; “unfortunately, it is true that we are no longer working on the game, and we wanted to finally announce that officially to everyone who has been following its development.” Hopefully the same isn’t true for Aliens: Colonial Marines , or that would leave Sega with only Aliens vs Predator in development. Regardless, Obsidian will be kept busy with Fallout: New Vegas and Alpha Protocol . by Lofeappeash on Jun.27, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Rumors, Video Games
Syndicate creator Sean Cooper says he remains skeptical any revival of his 1993 cult-classic title will be able to capture the “essence” of the original. “Every time I’ve seen a prototype of a new Syndicate it’s just been misguided,” Cooper told IncGamers .

Jason Rohrer: Spielberg’s ‘LMNO’ project probably cancelled
by HefZoowReek on Jun.26, 2009, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Rumors, Video Games
Before it was known as Boom Blox , Steven Spielberg’s puzzle game project was known as PQRS , and it was revealed alongside an Xbox 360/PS3 action game, codenamed LMNO , about a former secret agent on the run with a dynamic AI character. Boom Blox , of course, was released to great critical acclaim, but LMNO hasn’t been so lucky.

In fact, the last thing we heard about it were rumors that the team had been laid off (which Spielberg denied ) and the project put on hold . In an interview with Edge , Passage creator Jason Rohrer revealed that he had been involved with the project. “On top of (odd programming jobs), I did some consulting work, most recently for EA on the Spielberg LMNO project,” he told Edge

PSP devs given ‘opportunity to look at non-gaming applications’
by realiru on Jun.25, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Rumors, Video Games
PlayStation’s Al De Leon was sneaking around New York with a prototype of the new PSP Go and, when asked about possibility of developers producing non-game applications for the device (and, in turn, other versions of the PSP), stated that content “will mostly be games, but there’s an opportunity to look at non-gaming applications.” Speaking to CNET , he demonstrated the new device in a video, which you can see after the break. With rumors pointing to a non-gaming section of the PSP Store set to be revealed at Gamescom Cologne in August, we could be seeing some interesting non-gaming additions to the PSP library soon. by embadiaders on Jun.22, 2009, under Features, Gadgets, Media, Rumors, Video Games
It’s almost three months since we first spotted the PS Cloud trademark and some fake details have been ” leaked out .” Allegedly, PlayStation Cloud is like MobileMe for the PSN. A cloud-based system which will hold all your contacts, save files, stats and in-game videos and screenshots online, so they can be accessed from any PS3. Not only that, but these leaked details — along with the screenshot above — imply that the service would substantially improve the PSN’s community features, showing peoples activity in realtime. As welcome as these features would be (very!), we’ve received feedback from the PlayStation Blog’s Jeff Rubenstein.

Rumor: FFXIV beta may kick off in September
by MichaelCrook on Jun.22, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Rumors, Video Games
Considering the game’s been announced for a little over two weeks but is set to drop in 2010, we expect news for Final Fantasy XIV to fly fast and furious in the months leading up to its release. Today, for instance, we’ve received rumors claiming that the beta process for the game will begin as early as September, spawned by a recently uploaded Help Wanted sign on Square Enix’s site which requests the aid of game testers and game masters. The employment offering doesn’t actually mention FFXIV , though — it only asks that applicants be well versed in FFXI , which led some fans to speculate that most of the FFXI support team will be shifted to XIV

by oprazdnic on Jun.19, 2009, under Gadgets, Media, Rumors, Video Games
We’ve heard a number of rumors claiming Mr. Clifford B. was preparing to eschew his chainsawgun-heavy namesake in favor of one more spooky. However, these rumors were recently crushed between Bleszinski’s manly, well-maintained jaws during an interview with OXM , in which he explains he’s “not making a horror game next,” because, well, ” Gears is very much near and dear” to him.
